I would counter that with... if you had to buy a player and disregard age and potential, who would cost the most. I think you'll find none of the defenders and midfielders (who don't score) would cost as much. Even Fantasy Football the most expensive players are the strikers
I think that's the point. Molby was fat and slow but could pass brilliantly. If Molby only passed sideways and not forwards, he'd have been a big pile of ****
The Lord's Prayer Christ Is watching so shhhh Hail Mary Pray for Muamba Sit young child Kneel young child O'Christ the Chip pan Please don't pick Fellaini Obviously I ran out of prayers before I could get to 10, sorry. Tried my best.
Seriously though, does anyone remember back in school days, the good kids always got picked to play as forwards whilst the kids who could barely kick a ball were made into defenders? Ok. That wouldn't work in the professional world, but I think there is a little bit of logic in the childhood mindset. It's easier to be a defender with low speed, skills and ability than it is to be an attacker. Not saying all forwards are better than all defenders because that clearly isn't true, but I think people with greater abilities than their peers are more likely to be pushed to being forwards than defenders. If you look at the record signings you'll see few defenders or goalkeepers. Balon D Or is usually won by a forward.
Not at my school. It produced a few professionals in all positions, and even those of us that didn't turn pro played at a reasonable level.
