Park Street bridge is nothing to do with the SMC. They've been pulled up on the away fans fencing loads of times, they still insist it's necessary, even though it obviously isn't (other than West Brom's stupid 'walk round the block' nonsense, I can't remember any other Premier League club have this sort of segregation any more.
Don't West Ham have some equally non sensical segregation for away fans? I haven't been, but I'm sure that was one of the discussion points on Talk Sport the other day - the plight of West Ham. It may just be routes they enforce on fans at exit - not sure.
The crush occurs at the top of the stairway from the KC to the footpath which leads over the bridge. I didn't mention the SMC, nor did the original post. It is a council safety committee that is 'looking' at the problems at the turnstiles.
My point was that once they're out the stadium and off the road around it, they're nothing to do with the SMC. It's the SMC that have to look at the problems with the turnstiles and report back to the Safety Advisory Group.
I'm not sure if it's segregated or just the routing on exit of the stadium. Maybe a bit of both. Blown out for corporate? Bit rude
Stoke is all fenced in around the away turnstiles - we were even locked in the compound a few years ago and got pelted with stones - well done OB
It wouldn't surprise me at all. Wasn't a fan killed at a Stoke game in the last few years? Something to do with a bin thrown over a segregated fence section? More than a few years ago. Thought it was much more recent. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-13003714
Seven years ago, it was a Blackburn fan, but it was nothing to do with segregation. He was hit by a bin thrown by a fellow Blackburn fan on the concourse at half time.
There was a separate route for away fans after the game at West Ham in December. It led to a railway embankment where you could then resume your walk back to the tube station on the same route as earlier. Bit of a waste of time, but barely any inconvenience for away fans. Like our arrangements at the KCOM, it was probably more of a pain for home fans wishing to get from one side of the stadium to the other after the game. The fences are still in place at Stoke but I've not been held back for a few years now, not since Nicky Barmby's late equaliser riled the local clowns so much they decided to empty their pockets of loose change. I made a mint that afternoon.
At the time I thought it was opposing fans. Seems it was a fellow fan who threw the bin and he tried to 'head' it. Not the best idea ever.
the gates are usually left open - they were closed that day to stop the opposing fans getting together - - cant remember whether it was the game we won 3 0 or whether it was the game we drew 1 1 and Barmy equalised late on and went over to their fans and wound them up with his celebrating
