    The 53-year-old has publicly declared he is ready for a full-time role and Meyler is certain Phelan is ready for such an opportunity after his thorough planning helped mastermind victory against Leicester.
    'He deserves a lot of credit,' he said. 'He set us up in a good manner to deal with everything. We tried to crowd them out in midfield and stop them playing and stop them turning us towards our own goal.
    'His work all week helped us do that.
    'When you're Sir Alex's assistant for long enough I presume you go through everything and he's not taking any short-cuts now.'
    Meyler, an Irish international, likes the way Phelan prepares for upcoming opponents
    Meyler said the players were just as prepared for this weekend's trip to Swansea as they look to build on the opening-day win.
    'We've watched everything on Swansea,' he said.
    'We could tell you everything about them - how long they sleep, how many times they go to the toilet every day.
    'That's just the type of person he is. He's a winner and he's trying to embed that into us. That showed from last week's performance.'

    They did. Phelan never had a chance. No squad and injuries on top of that. He was on a hiding to nothing. Do I wish he was still here? No

    That's what I meant about the 'usual noises', players almost always say nice things about a new manager, they obviously want to keep them onside to make sure they get picked. But the way all the players are currently talking about Silva is on a completely different level.

    Yeah I know how it works, I'm not ignorant of saying nice things about the boss so they get picked. But that notwithstanding, personally I don't think those comments from Meyler are 'the usual noises'. They can only be described as glowing.

    Well, it's the morning after the night before, feeling fragile, not a good idea to go for celebratory drinks after the game with an early morning meeting and evening meeting tonight - but it would have been rude not to?? So, a bit late with my observations, apologies if already been said;

    Brilliant team performance to a man. Honorary mentions;

    Clucas, best performance I think I've seen.
    Newbies - Markovich, 2nd excellent performance on the bounce. Evandro - oozed class, wouldn't have thought been out injured.
    N'Diaye - excellent step up, like a pit bull, on to everything.
    Jak - for being Jak! Wound up young Bamford, very entertaining! Organised the ball girls away from his area!
    Feel for Thudd - was in great form but 2nd game missing, 2 great results, have we missed him?

    What an idiot, the Boro guy, Triaore, what's with the white mop on his head. All that money and if he thinks that looked good, dear dear!

    It's Traoré and he tore Robbo a new one, I'd love us to sign him.

    I Wouldn't want him. 99% of his game is pace but he's not effective. 23 games 0 goals and 1 assist and it was a bad shot last game. Not even a proper assist for a winger is appaling.

    OLM is right.

    The Phelan comments at the time where the usual platitudes. In the same way Phelan did he soundbites in football speak.

    The Silva ones now are totally different. Both from him and the players. I'd go so far as saying it's Citys equivalent of arsenal years ago unearthing some gem from Japan.

    How are the comments from Meyler the usual platitudes? In watching City for 35 years I have never heard anyone say anything like that in an interview. If anything, the comment from Clucas re every player now knows his role is the usual platitude.

    He was by far the best player on the pitch in the first half last night and Barcelona aren't known for signing **** players.

    He's a dangerous player, for sure. But his end product last night was one shot badly shinned across the face of goal for Negredo to score. And another shot that went high and wide.

    He also did some good defensive work in the second half, which was commendable.
