Their signings were just ****. Picking up some former Barca keeper with an attitude that he won't turn out for Man Utd reserves is exactly the sort of character you want in the dressing room just after promotion...
Square pegs in square holes....Round pegs in round holes... According to Clucas on MOTD every player knows where they are playing and what is expected of them...100% detail to organisation looks as if it can result in good performance. And good performances make POINTS.
Wow!! What a night. Took me back to the 60's when that famous forward line used to surge forward wave after wave. Though I thought we should have balanced it with a desire to keep the ball more. Pity the owners have ****ed it up for the fans. A full stadium would be a delight at the moment. Whatever happens, thanks to Marco for showing us what it could be like.
Sorry to pick holes (arf) but if they didn't know that before then what the **** were they doing in training 5 days a week? Surely - surely - after being fit enough to get onto the pitch that is the bare minimum requirement.
Not knocking. Mike Phelan. for a second, but maybe he just didn't have Silva's vision and penchant for detail.... Oh hark at me: penchant
With regard to football, Marco Silva is an obsessive. Don't ever forget, his favourite word is IMPORTANT.
All the training they did under Steve Bruce was keeping formation, defensive lines and defending set pieces. It showed in our complete inability to attack the enemy goal. Do you think we'd have won that match if SB was still here? It'd have been 5-4-1 and the only attack we would make would have been Elmo and Robbo running down the wings feeding their two giant centre halves with high balls to gobble up. Assuming SB made the same signings as Silva we might have had Markovic up front on his own.
This is true. However, the pundits who were claiming this, that I saw anyway, were deadheads like Stuart Pearce, Merson and Charlie 'Daft ****' Nicholas. I thought Boro were pretty **** last season too - just the right side of conservative and flukey as ****. I think they'll struggle to return. Along with Pompey in 2010, I think Boro are the worst Prem side I've seen whilst we've been in the division.
The way the players are talking about Marco isn't just making the usual noises, they talk about him with an enthusiasm not afforded to our previous managers.
And I'm not talking about 'the usual noises'. I referenced a specific comment from a player. And as a point I do remember them talking about Phelan in that way. There was an interview with someone - was it Meyler? - who described at length the amount of detail that Phelan now goes into, to the extent that they know when the opposition go to the toilet.
