I'm still stuck staring at the Monreal penalty that wasn't given for Arsenal in the game on MOTD before!
Yep it wasn't a great challenge but it doesn't help the referee make decisions when you have players like Zaha who play acts so much. It was a foul. GBH? Not even close but then Sam's under pressure fighting a relegation battle so probably just frustrated with the result.
They'll be fine I reckon. Sam tends to pull a few results out of the big sides. Wouldn't bet against them doing Arsenal Monday night at Selhurst tbh...
I've seen a load of praise for JWP tonight, rightly so, but I'd just like to mention that Redmond has been really bloody good recently. In fact, he has impressed me all season with his excellent dribbling and positive play, but prior to Christmas his end product was very poor. Recently he seems to have added this extra element to his game. Not just with a few more goals but also his passing in the final third. He played an excellent through ball to put Long through in the first minute and did really well to beat a man and get the ball to Stephens who assisted Yoshida for the winner. Can't wait to see what he will be like next season if he continues to grow with us and impress!!
Didn't see tonight but completely agree. I was happy when we signed him as young, English & hugely talented is right up our street. As you say since the new year he's been undoubtedly one of our best players. Big season next season for him then off to Liverpool In seriousness though, am excited by our attacking options for next season.
Just got in from work and watched the highlights. We played some very nice stuff. Really looking forward to seeing what we look like next season once Claude's had another preseason and added some more of his own. P.S. José Fonte looked fecking awful at the game tonight. I take no pleasure in saying that.
He nearly had his leg broken in a challenge in the box (should have been a penalty for the lung and showing studs) but stayed on until after the two goals that quickly followed - certainly looked uncomfortable (it was a horrendous challenge) and might have been a precautionary measure as much as anything.
Couple of old guys had a go at me and my friend last night wound my friend up no end. We were being really positive about saints, obviously didn't like that whilst the people behind us bleated on all game how **** Long and Forster are... On to the game, we were superb
Big Sam did us a favour last night switching as he did to 3 CB's and 2 WB's in the second half - I understood he wanted to negate the number and impact of crosses but all that achieved was opening up more space in front of the back line and allowed our players more options and the WB's did not do their job that well as evidenced by the number of cutbacks from the byeline we had.
Last season I think JWP seemed to be struggling to fulfil his potential. An extended run in the team has seen him blossom, especially since the New Year and he is starting to look like a quality player. My only criticism is his lack of goals which comes from a lack of anticipation of where the ball might land in the box. This happened a few times last night before he was right on the money when he took the third goal. I have to agree with the Allardyce comment that the equaliser stemmed from a foul. It looked heavy handed at the match but far more obvious on MofD. For what it is worth, I can't see JWP being poached by a large club at the moment. He is not required by teams like Liverpool or Man Utd and would not get into either Chelsea or Man City. Do Spurs really need to strengthen in midfield albeit the seem to have half of the current England line up in their squad. If Arsenal bought another Saints player Wenger would come under even more scrutiny by the fans for lack of ambition. The biggest threat might come from Newcastle trying to re-build a squad for next season but, to be honest, I can't see JWP being sold. He is easily the most improved Saints player this season.
I will cut off one of my arms and send it to you in the post if we sell JWP to Newcastle next season. Never, ever, ever going to happen.
The now settled JWP, Tadic, Redmond attacking midfield has been very good since January and this was probably their best game together. With Tadic putting in a performance which is more in keeping with his talent Their movement between the lines was excellent all game and we just seemed to glide through them at will.
