Incredible finish - not for the first time this season either. Says a lot for the players' mental strength. My only concern if I was a Spurs fan is that you lack squad depth. There are only 15 or 16 players of the quality required. For most of the game, the absent players were missed.
Positive way to look at it is Man City and Liverpool dropped points so we are making a nice gap to third now. Win our 2 home games coming up and then see what happens. If we don't gain any points on Chelsea after this then that's the league done
I managed to get on at 55 minutes, glad I missed the first half if truth be told because from what I heard it was dreadful. Alli's knack of being in the right place at the right time is so crucial for us. Sonny yet again backing up my claim that he can definitely replace Kane's goals to a certain level. That's 15 or 16 for the season now, I believe. Classy third goal, super through ball by Alli and then Eriksen looked like he does that in his sleep, made it look easy. Typically nail biting stuff by the boys but buzzing to get the win, especially as the teams around us have picked up points. COYS!
Mousers will be suicidal after tonight! They could end up in 5th (again), if both Arsenal and City win their games in hand.
Oh well, Chelsea stay 7 ahead, at least we're still bloody in it though... just about. Haven't really spoken about the Spurs game yet! Was a poor second half for us but Swansea defended really well. Incredible fight from the lads though. Son, Alli and Eriksen, the 3 lads you look to chip in goals when Kane's out all step up. 31 goals between them now, fantastic considering Son has only started 16 matches and Eriksen didn't really turn up for the first half of the season. Sissoko can bugger off. I like Janssen and Davies but they can join him too, simply not good enough or suited to the way we play. Final thought, what a huge win that is. No Lloris, no Wanyama, no Kane, no Winks, no Rose AND Sissoko starting. Simply brilliant to get the win with so many out.
Well, what a turnaround. The Chelsea result is disappointing, but let's not forget their next 2 games are tricky away games against B'mouth (who seem to really turn up against the big sides) and United (who will be desperate for revenge). Our next 2 games are both at home and both - on paper at least - winnable. Anything can happen. Tonight's win, whilst almost causing me to have a heart attack, has massively consolidated our grip on the top 4. Now 11 points ahead of Arsenal and 7 ahead of City with a vastly superior GD to both of them. I understand the criticisms tonight (I was dishing plenty out myself), but we have seen time and again how we just don't have the depth to break down stubborn defences when numerous key players are out injured. Wanyama should be back for Watford, which will give us back a natural shape and obviate the need to waste a bottle of lucozade on Sissoko. All things considered, it is truly remarkable that with 8 games still to play, no-one south of Everton in 7th place can catch us anymore. Truly remarkable
I agree with Sissoko (like everyone else on here!) but I definitely want Janssen to get another season. A good pre season with a few goals may kick start his career with us. He is worth persevering with for at least another 12 months. Davies is a good solid back up. He didn't play well tonight but it's not like our results have dropped or we have let loads of goals in since Rose has been out. I don't think you will get a much better under study left back then him
Janssen?! I thought he changed the game. Held it up, played it on, caused chaos and created the winner. Barely got any time on the pitch, yet I'd say it was his best game for us. I'd keep Davies, too. Buy another left-back who can directly fill in for Rose, but have him too. He's capable of playing in the three at the back or either left-back/wingback role and there aren't many decent ones, either. Bring in Sessegnon for the future and let them fight it out for places.
Davies has had better games, sure. Perhaps the rigours of playing so many games consecutively is beginning to affect him? As for Janssen, for the first 10 minutes after he came on I had to keep checking he was still on the pitch. But that backheel flick for Son's 2nd was delightful, as was his strength in the middle of the park to turn on the break, control the ball and feed Alli to play in Eriksen for our 3rd. What I am seeing from him is a player who definitely has a lot to work on, but at the same time is making key contributions more and more frequently. He was crucial to beating Everton & Soton and played a huge part tonight. That is worlds away from the likes of Sissoko, who doesn't seem to be capable of anything even when given a whole match to impress in.
Dele Alli has 15 PL goals now. He's doing what he did in League One in the PL. I wish Utd had a player who could support Ibrahimovic in this way with goals. What a difference it would make. Master tactician Pep came unstuck tonight, as expected, with his bizarre selection. City have gifted Chelsea 6 points this season. 6 decisive points.
I think the greatest asset tonight was our supreme fitness. That's all down to Poch. Those lads never stopped finding the holes, and making space for each other. It was a superb team effort!
Before I go...shout out to Janssen who is playing a big role for us on the pitch even if he is not scoring. Come on son, keep on grafting.
We're down to the dead men and no-hopers but Kane's due back soon. Add in Victor, Hugo (good writer) and maybe Danny Rose and only one more midweek game, we just need to get passed Saturday and things should ease. If we beat Bournemouth and Watford at The Lane we're in a very good position given your and Arsenal's run-in and the Mouser's injuries and even greater squad weakness. The title was never on from Kane's first injury.
We looked a darn sight better balanced when Janssen and GKN came on which suggests that we do have some resilience on the bench. Janssen flick for Son was sweet. Sissoko was a complete waste of space and showed nothing - well, maybe 1 tackle and short run - in 60 minutes. The defence looked nervous all night and Toby wasn't having his best of games. Davies got caught several times as well, but doubt whether we would find a better back up LB. But we won so everyone's happy - particularly with the Mousers dropping 2 points and the London Squatters dropping like a stone into Relegationville!!
Disagree, There are too many MF players in the squad who either do not or cannot front up in these situations. If Dembele is as strong on / difficult to get off the ball as everyone claims, why does he never bulldoze thru the buses etc.
Janssen's scored one league goal for us in over 700 minutes of football. One. If we were still battling around trying to scrape 4th I'd agree with you but we're very close to becoming good enough to win the league, we can't have passengers next season if we're going to give ourselves the best chance possible. Maybe he will come good but it looks like a long shot to me. He's had some okay games but nothing that shows me that he's good enough. My problem with Davies is that he gets absolutely shredded by any kind of direct running. I'd rather we have a more like-for-like player. There must be a quick left back somewhere on the planet who's halfway decent and that we can afford.
