Nice to see results go our way tonight, apart from Hull but something had to give there. PHEWWWWWWWW Then Muff score as I am wirting this...well, still....
With only Hull winning of those below us think we can feel pretty confident of staying up. Big Sam won't be so chipper tonight - and the Hammers will be worried (they play Swansea on Saturday...) They have tough run-ins...more so than Swansea.
Yes - I'm no betting man, but I'd expect good odds on West Ham losing their final five games. And after losing their last five, they won't be too confident about their next two either - Swansea and Sunderland.
Strange incident in the Newcastle game with the ref ruling out a converted penalty due to a foul by another Newcastle player as the kick was taken..and not allowing a re-take - instead he gave Burton a free kick. I remember once we gave away another penalty as one was being missed due to a foul on the edge of the area but not for the attacking team to have one chalked off like this.
Apparently the ref has admitted his mistake and apologised. For me, that was too basic an error for a supposed top-class referee - he was under no pressure, looking straight at the incident, correctly blew for an infringement - then misapplied the law. I'd say he's extremely lucky that Newcastle went on to win the match, else getting home would have proven somewhat troublesome.
I think Sunderland and Boro are as good as gone now, and the final 2 spots between Swansea and Hull. Hull's home form may keep them up. I imagine Palace are safe, and seem to have got Benteke scoring now. If West Ham win neither of their next 2 games, then they will be seriously looking over their shoulder - they have a pretty horrible run-in - as do we, which is why those two wins were so important
Just watched this.... oh deary me. This is basic, basic, application of the law that he has messed up. Seemed to me that the Burton players encroached first anyway. No referee should make that mistake. The only way the referee could have arrived at that decision is if a different player than notified took it or if he had made an illegal feint before kicking the ball (both of which carry a mandatory YC sanction). And these are supposed to be our best ref's?
Well there's something you don't hear every day - kick off in the Exeter vs Newport match has been delayed because of cattle on the M5...
7-1! Norwich fans probably wonder where this performance came from. Brighton and Newcastle pretty much promoted now.
They were saying on MOTD that Hull should win 2 of their 3 last home games - those games are us, Sunderland and Spurs on the last day.
Granada beginning to looked doomed, currently losing 0-2 at home to Valencia after 35 minutes - and Valencia just had another chalked off for offside.
