    Hospital

What a ****ing farce from start to finish. I was due in at 2.00 pm last Tuesday. I phoned the hospital to confirm I'd be attending on the Monday and they told me to call in the morning to check bed availability on the ward. When I did so, I was told they were waiting for a bed to become available and it would be 'some time' after 2.00 pm. They would call me to let me know when, but it wouldn't be before 2.00 pm. It was 9.30 am by now, so I caught a bus into town and went to Wetherspoons, knowing the operation wasn't until the following day anyway

After a few in there, I caught a cab to the Cheese. The main brewery boss was in there with a few of his underlings assessing what needed doing. The first thing I heard being sorted out was several boxes of new Carling glasses <laugh> The gaff is allegedly getting a complete going over at some stage in the future, inside and out. The new tenants are 'tied' to the brewery, so unlike with Denice, they're going to invest in it, or so they say. Carling has gone up from £2.50 to £2.80 and Guinness from £2.50 to £3.00 etc. I had a few more in there. Called the ward at 2.00 pm and still no bed. Eventually, I got a call at 3.15 pm saying a bed was being prepared on a different ward and my notes were being sent there. The ward called about 10 mins after that to say I could make my way there, so I called my mate, he arrived and off we went. TBC

Boss has just walked in after his lunch. I've now arrived at the hospital and made my way to the ward (not too far from the main entrance for *** breaks).

If they end up amputating your leg you can get a wooden one and join Zingy's pirate crew. Grow a beard and you can be known as silver beard.

They took blood the following day. I didn't actually see a doctor until 9.00 pm on the Tuesday night. More of that discussion a little later. I didn't speak to a ward sister until 4.30 pm and even then, they couldn't find my notes which eventually materialised at about 5.15 pm on the Tuesday.

So they eventually found my notes. I went for a few ***s and then as I said, a doctor (registrar I think) came to see me at 9.00 pm. He introduced himself and then said, "I know what I can smell........cigarettes. That's why you're in here, you know". I asked him if he'd actually read the notes and he said he'd 'scanned' them. I explained that the consultant had already checked the circulation in my legs and it was fine. I then explained exactly what had happened and then we actually got down to discussing the condition. He said after the procedure, I'd probably need a 'vac dressing' and would be in for 5 or 6 days. I said no chance. I was told 3 days. He said he's call the consultant. He came out about half an hour later saying he's spoken to him and that the op wasn't being done until Thursday, a day later than discussed.. No IV antibiotics as no infection, so just elevate my leg in bed. ****ing fuming by this point <grr> TBC

He should have gone private, none of this messing about. I had a wine list when I was last in a hospital and a menu with a choice of food.

The way the NHS is today RHC will probably end his tale saying "so they gave me a penknife and told me to do the operation myself"

I take it you haven't had much experience of hospitals previously .
