Nine days later, passport received. Impressive. Probably a good time of the year for renewing, beating the last minute rush for summer holidays. Odd seeing the photo page at the front, and not at the rear of the passport, and the photo page feels VERY flimsy compared to the heavily laminated page, in the old book. Hope it scans well. Note to self. DO NOT LEAVE PASSPORT IN SHORTS POCKET, WHEN WASHING SAID SHORTS again.
Following on from Interstellar, I did watch The Martian for the second time. Yeah, it was good, but then again I knew it would be. Was it as good as Interstellar.? Well, yes and no. It's nothing like as ambitious a film, but it was easier to like. Both have their up and down moments but I think Interstellar's reach just makes it more satisfying in the end. As I'm laid up with yet another bad case of man flu at the moment [terrible throat, coughing, aching joints] and I managed to put my back out yesterday for good measure, I'm getting round to watching quite a few films. I want to have a go at Moonlight and Lion and there's a western called Brimstone that looks like it might be OK. Of course I could have another watch of Bone Tomahawk, which blew me away when I first saw it early last year. So unexpectedly good then and its quality would easily carry me through for a second go.
I just finished watching Mutiny on All4, and I thoroughly recommend it TSS. You as a sailor will appreciate the challenge of a group of 9 men from different backgrounds being thrown together to recreate William Bligh's epic 4,000 mile journey across the South Pacific in a 23 foot open sloop, an exact replica of the boat Bligh and his men were cast off from the Bounty in in 1789, even down to canvas sails and hemp ropes. Of course, the trials the men undergo turn it into reality TV, which is presumably what Channel 4 wanted, but it's fascinating and inspiring all the same. Compelling viewing, I found.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-tayside-central-39478203 Woman has to pay £24500 parking charges after being taken to court by the land owner. She thought the charges weren't legal because it was a private car park. Well she got that wrong!
I agree. It was good viewing. Ex SAS man did a fine job. Reminded me of the Island, which similarly ends up being reality TV, the difference being they actually end up starving, struggling to survive, and the physical and emotional strain as a consequence. As oppose to a bunch of pathological extroverted twats showing off in a jungle or a house.
I just finished watching the final ever episode of black sails and just wow.. anyone else here watch it?
I stopped watching it at the end of Series 2. No specific reason, just doing other things. I'll go back to it at some point. I like leaving these little nuggets for later viewing. At the moment I've got 20 minutes into the second series of The Man in the High Castle and I can't watch it any further. The novelty has worn right off.
I'm currently on Series 5 Episode 4 of Breaking Bad. Was on Series 1 episode 1 just 6 weeks ago. Really good - can't believe i missed it. BTW, the Walking Dead is good tonight, I watched it at lunchtime.
As you say, wow! Wouldn't it be wonderful if the same people decided to continue the story and remake "Treasure Island"?
I would love it and think they would do it justice although i don't think they will. I really do want more though, i just don't want it to be over! edit: so, is flint: Spoiler A: Alive and with Tom or B: Silver made the whole story up for Maddy(spelling?) and he shot him?
me too! Spoiler but i'm a happy clapper I have a friend who is such a bedwetter that i had to spend a long time trying to convince him it was B as he wouldn't accept a happy ending!
Spoiler A being true opens the possibility of a sequel to Treasure Island, if my memory of the book isn't confused!
