Seeing the news about Bertrand to Chelsea on this particular day I'd hoped it was an April fools joke! I really hope he has learnt that its better to be valued and actually play at a smaller club than be a sideman at Chelsea. Either way, he has a long contract and we should reject whatever offers come in. Same for VVD. We make noises about wanting to progress from just a selling club and retain our star players for longer well now is the time as our hand isn't forced by expiring contracts.
He's an established top level Premier League left back now, and a regular England International. Completely different to when he was at Chelsea last, behind Ashley Cole. Don't be naive and think he won't be off if there's an offer of first team football for a CL club.
Yeah really baffles me when people say "Oh Bertrand and Romeu won't want to go because they were backup players at big clubs before", they have matured as players since their days at Chelsea and would get far more football if they were at a big club now. Probably not as much as at Saints but I think most players would rather be playing 25/30 games a season at somewhere like Chelsea than every game at Saints
You'd have thought we all might have learned our lesson about players by now. Any one of our players would probably go at the drop of hat come the right offer. We have to get used to this.

If Chelsea want Bertrand it is going to cost them big bucks.........and I think he will go. Having said that though, we don't have too bad a back up in Targett? With not a bad back up for Targett either. (Forgotten his name) However He does have a long contract with Saints so it could be that Saints will dig their heels in. If Saints do dig in it will show the fans that at last Saints mean business. Sadly for this old codger it would be a first time they have meant what they say. Mind you as usual we can only hope............
Nah, sorry but Chelsea will go for a bigger name. Bertrand only has eight letters in it, which compared to Azpilicueta would be quite a step down.
Coventry v Oxford (14:30 BST) Ged Scott BBC Sport at Wembley Posted at14:08 BBC Coventry's following at Wembley of almost 43,000 is understood to have been bettered only by the 44,000 Southampton brought here in 2010, in terms of the largest number of tickets sold by any club side visiting England's football capital. And it seemed before kick-off that they had all congregated in Wembley's pre-match scoffing and quaffing area! Still hold the record!
Oh sugarpuffs - looks as if 0-0 will be a good result then, as long as the defence doesn't play in Fred Karno's Army mode.
I was overtaken by former Saints keeper Dave Beasant 20 minutes ago, on the M40. Not so interesting fact.
You're obviously showing your age there or quickly Googled! 'Surprisingly funny' was normally my goalkeeping reports! Still there is a first time for everything but I feel I must apologise to the regulars for the nature of my posts this season but for some reason the whole campaign, even with the League Cup Final, has turned me into a cynical miseryguts. I've really lost a considerable amount of interest in football and even a bit in Saints this season. It's be a long slog supporting them over 45 years and what for? 'Be happy, you're middle of the table and stop being arrogant', brilliant.
