Dad had the first only one in our street for years. During the war he was given special petrol coupons for his work in emergencies after bombing raids. Also had the only telephone. We had the first automatic washing machine too - a front loader by Bendix. Neighbours came with their kids and watched the whole cycle sitting in front. This preceded the first TV which I used to try to entice girls to come in the house to watch when my parents went out on Sunday nights. Unsuccessful though!
