I'm on a train...therefore I'm having lamb hotpot with a bottle of Great Newsome's Frothingham Best (very nice)

No doubt some of you weirdos would have stuck a battered haddock in the hotpot and piccalilli in the beer! I despair

Chorizo is a good addition to many dishes. A big fan of the chorizo sausages my local butcher makes as well.

You've got a like from me for Jacksons chippy, Rosemead St., used to be our local too (but not for the gravy on fish!)

Fond memories as kids, being sent down the ten foot with the chippy order, folded up with the money inside. Hand it over, waited for the order and change folded back inside the paper. Sometimes, just sent with a dish and money for a dish of chips n scraps!

Another luxury, if us kids were playing out on ten foot, my grandad would give us six penny piece each to go to the chippy for a six penny bag of chips n scraps. Happy days.

That, and tripe and onions, are the two things I would turn down if my rescuers offered them after they saved me after being marooned and starving.

    Food and drink is excellent
First class, but cheap really as bought in advance, off peak, and we have a Two Together railcard.
£25 to London with free food and all soft drinks (beer was £3.50 for 500ml which is fine too)

It was one of those real chippy's, just the smell made ya want some. When I was a lad I used to have to go for the chippy order with a note and the money wrapped inside. I couldn't even see over the bloody counter. Not much better now ;) To all of you buggers once and for ALLLLL !!!! I didn't put Gravy on my ****ing fish.

We also had a pub in Preston Blackies where you could go with a bowl and they would fill it with mushy peas and a pie. Preston Hull that is. Blackies has now shut. only two pubs left in my home village. Cock & Bell and Nags Head better known by locals as Bottom end.

1980s/early 90s is my reference point, but not far off on Newbridge Rd, Hanson's was pretty good too as was Foster's.

I remember they'd do Cod Roe too - not many chippies I saw offered it, not that I ever dared to try it.

They'd deffo be an expose on chippies that use instant mash for their patties instead of the real thing.

Not far from Hanson's, was Buon Appetito too (think it moved some point in the 90s when I wasn't living in Hull). The greatest pizza takeaway I've ever been to.
