    The Houses of Parliament are one of the most heavily protected places in the country, there are a lot of armed officers stationed there, yesterdays attacker was shot within seconds of the stabbing.

    They're undertaking a review...

    The review is certain to focus on the obvious weak spot of Carriage Gates, facing onto Parliament Square, through which the killer of PC Palmer entered.

    The officers there are not armed, but instead present a friendly face to tourists, helping them to take photos of Big Ben. Armed officers sometimes stand behind them.

    Because it is used by cars carrying ministers and staff with permits to park underneath New Palace Yard, the heavy gates are frequently wide open.

    There are no airport-style checks, as there are at other Parliamentary entrances, including those at St Stephen’s Gate and Portcullis House, which houses most MPs’ offices.

    No wish to be critical in the circumstances, but this has been going to happen for ages and the most obvious place was the HoP , but they were unable to stop the guy getting through the open gate. Then the officer who died wasn't armed....Major errors if you ask me. If the officer had a taser he would have been able to defend himself, but it would appear he had nothing..

    Everyone has a view on arming the police or not! But my thoughts are if your wife or child were caught up in an attack and they were hiding? Then they'd want to see the first police officer on the scene to be armed with a gun not waving a taser! You can't stop these kind attacks but you can reduce the casualties! IMO

    We should have a military presence at Parliment and the Royal palaces, its what the Army is for, not parading with shiny boots.

    Khalid Masood, 52, originally of Kent, named by police as Westminster attacker.

    He had a number of aliases and was known to the police.

    Though born in Kent, he's more recently been living in Solihull, West Midlands).

    There are no details released of the number of armed officers stationed at Parliament, or if there's ever a military presence (for obvious reasons), but the place was swarming with SAS within minutes yesterday.
