Anyone North of the river (particularly Town End Farm/Downhill) may remember being scared of the Boldon Blackies. Don't know if they were real but they were supposed to by a gang which sounded like the Scots led by Mel Gibson.

Mates told us not to venture too far up Bunny Hill or we might get court.

It's been a long time since that lonely night on the Brecon Beacons when Billy had a puffin'im.

He had to eat swill for breakfast as well.

Remember them very well mate, spent all my childhood in TEF/ We used to go to the bottom of Boldon Bank (Downhill Lane) and there used to be a kiddies play park there, we used to cause havoc then leg it halfway back up the bank and wait for the 'Boldon Blackies' and then there was always the usual stand-off and chucking rocks and sticks at each other. Can't ever remember any fighting like but they were well known in that area.

Anybody remember the farm opposite Hylton Castle, before the estate was built or the Boldon Blackies were born.
