German newspaper Bild are reporting this evening that Arsenal have made an approach to Thomas Tuchel to take over from Arsene Wenger next season. The Borussia Dortmund manager has apparently recently been approached to take the helm at Arsenal. Speaking after the 3-1 defeat to West Brom, the 67 year old seemed to indicate he’d made his mind up about what he’d do when his contract expires in June. 43 year old Tuchel has been in charge of Dortmund since 2015, having spent five years at Mainz. Bild is known as being a fairly trashy publication, so it’d be wise not to view this as gospel, but he is surely one of the candidates to replace Wenger if he decides not to renew this summer.
Until Wenger announces what he's going to do, I think we're going to hear all sorts of rumours. Then if he does decide he's leaving, the rumour mill will go into overdrive. As for Tuchel, I can't say I really know a lot about him other than he's become a bit more high profile now that he's at Dortmund, who haven't really reached the heights they did under Klopp. Other than that, he looks a bit like Doc from Back to the Future minus the crazy hair
"No, no, no, no, no, this sucker's electrical, but I need a nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity I need." Tomas Tuchel. What was his record at Manz? I'm guessing it was decent but it's hard to ignore his current one for Dortmund which is frankly sh1t with 5 losses and 16 points away from league leaders Bayern. He also has a very good team as well. Not good enough. We need a top manager that is good to go and doesnt need too much time to adjust. The PL is a very competitive league and he'll be up against the very best. One of the main things going for him is his work with younger players which is something the Board will like, as well as being a cheaper alternative to the rest should Dortmund not renew his contract, which they are stalling on.
In my opinion we need a radical change from our current set up. Bring in a tough talking, no nonsense Italian that will change everything that is wrong with the soft culture at Arsenal. We need someone to basically slash and burn, get rid of all the excess and start building his own team. Unfortunately there has been a lot of damage created by Wenger in his latter years which needs desperately reversing. We need to go back to basics and build a winning, competitive culture, with a proper identity. Sometimes i look at our current team and wonder what they represent. The WBA game showed the lack of passion and the lack of desperation to get back to winning ways. If not for themselves, but for the manager that has stuck by them through thick and thin. I mean, i don't think any manager would have taken their sh1tty performances and still played them. As much as i want Wenger to go, he deserves better from his players. This is why i'd love to see a tough manager come in and kick some @ss. But one thing i wish he does is retain Sanchez, he is a juggernaut of a player and a perfect future captain to take us forward in the new era.
According to the Sun, Tony Pulis says Arsene Wenger had told him after the match that he will be staying at Arsenal.
Yes read the same thing. Sky sports is also reporting this http://www.skysports.com/football/n...nger-wants-to-stay-at-arsenal-says-tony-pulis. According to the Sun, when asked if he thought Wenger would stay at Arsenal, Pulis said: "I'll be surprised if he goes." He was then asked to expand on that and why he thought that would be the case and said: "Because he told me." I didn't know Pulis and Wenger were best buddies. He's someone i can't imagine sharing a glass of wine with Wenger after a game...
I agree entirely. This bunch of players made me ashamed of the WBA performance. Poss only Sanchez showed any passion but even he seemed glad to get off the pitch. Can't think of anyone who would play with the passion & commitment to be picked for Invincibles team.
No indeed, I think they respect each others positions on a professional basis but never have appeared best mates!!
Wenger is staying, the worse things get, the more determined he gets to prove people wrong, also as a man he is way too stubborn and proud to leave on such a low note after 20 years; he will refuse to be hounded out like this. Wenger is now like a degenerate gambler who does not know when to quit, because he still thinks he can turn things around with just one more bet or spin or in his case one or two season's. It's a sad state of affairs.
The problem of an iconic great clinging onto power for too long and refusing to call it a day. Is it the love of the club or his ego? My guess is it's his ego, he so desperately wants to turn the clock back that he doesn't know that he is hurting the club. It doesn't help when people see Wenger as he once was and not what he is now. Nostalgia is a big problem here.
Sunday Supplement (Skysports) were saying that there are rumours they have agreed just a one year extension with Wenger rather than the initial two-year deal. Which would be interesting because that would coincide nicely with Allegri's Juve deal.
That is good and bad if true. It would be good if: We are guaranteed to get Allegri who is one of the best and can make radical changes with our team He is given full reins over the team and is allowed a good summer budget and dispose of any excess baggage If Wenger can get us back in the top 4. I reckon we will drop out this season Retain Sanchez, Ozil and Bellerin Give Wenger a proper send off It would be bad if: Sanchez and Ozil leave Finish outside top 4 Wenger is allowed to buy any players in the summer transfer window Wenger is allowed to sign another extension This ones a risky one as we are clearly in decline and the last thing you want is for it to go down further. My personal preference would be NOW, get in Alegri and make him leave Juve asap. We need to stop the decline and let our competitors move further ahead of us. I'm not sure Wenger has another year left.
I've resigned myself to the fact that we're stuck with Wenger for another year. If it guarantees Allegri then its a year I think most Arsenal fans will begrudgingly endure.
Really sad that this was exactly everyone's opinion at the end of last season. Doesn't seem to end. Feels like every season we are "resigned to wenger staying one more year"
Some reports are saying no approach have been made. http://www.espnfc.com/arsenal/story...-for-borussia-dortmunds-thomas-tuchel-sources
BBC confirm that Arsenal have not made an approach for Tuchel http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/39327418 Good. I don't think he's the manager we should be going for.
To be honest, that would be a good outcome if it's the case. The board clearly haven't lined anybody up for this summer, so the best case scenario is Wenger for another year until a proper successor can be tied down. If Wenger walked now, we'd probably have Steve Bould in charge next year
What is apparent is the lack of insight and capability of our management in getting the right people in. No real back up plan in place apart from begging Wenger to do another year. If this is true then it is worrying going forward for Arsenal. It's this kind of incompetent Board and management that pushes the club backwards and creates lasting damage.
They are a very conservative board. It's given us stability, but now the lack of innovation and unwillingness to take risks is costing us.
