We've had a few comments recently that our current squad is among the best we have ever assembled. I have to admit I think that is exagerated, but it did get me thinking about whether any of our current squad would get in to a best ever team?! Here is my line-up, based on the players I have seen in my time supporting the club...

    GK Bryan Gunn
    LB Mark Bowen
    CB John Polsten
    CB Malky Mackay
    RB Ian Culverhouse
    LW Darren Eadie
    CM Ian Crook
    CM Wes Hoolahan
    RW Ruel Fox
    CF Chris Sutton
    CF Iwan Roberts

    Subs
    Rob Green
    Adam Drury
    Ian Fleming
    Phil Mulryne
    Darren Huckerby
    Grant Holt
    Efan Ekoku

Here is mine based on 442:-

    GK Woods
    RB Culverhouse
    LB Bowen
    CB Bruce
    CB Watson
    CM Crook
    CM Townsend
    RW Fox
    LW Huckerby
    ST Sutton
    ST Bellamy

    Subs
    Green
    Drury
    Linnigan
    Goss
    Gordon
    Fleck
    Crouch

No place for any of the current players just yet I'm afraid (Other than a subs spot for Drury, but I am not sure he will figure too much from now on.) Mabe by the end of this season that might change....

BTW, assume you mean CRAIG Fleming? Ian Fleming wrote James Bond lol.

Also, Hucks on ly on the bench? You sure? And Ekoku? He had one decent game for us where he scored 4 against Everton, other than that he was not exactly brilliant. My mind wanders to the hat-rick of misses away ar Vitesse.....

Oh yeah! Would you believe me if I claimed that Ian Fleming wrote spy thrillers while playing for Nigel Worthington???

Huckerby was a tough call, but I wasn't willing to leave Eadie or I Roberts out of the starting line-up!

Re. Ekoku- he was the player that got me most excited as a 13 year old watching from the Family Stand so couldn't be left out of my personal team. I accept he might not make everyone's line-up tho.

It is all opinion. Most would say that Robert Rosario was a very poor player apart from the one goal he scored against Southampton, I saw a very different player. To this day I suspect that those who played with him benefitted and scored more because of him.

Also, I had forgotten about Eadie, would have to put him in, subs bench though as Hucks was better even on the left wing. He would probably replace Crouch who, although superb, was not here that long.

I would also have loved to have squeezed in Mick Channon, Mark Barham, Wes, Grolt, Iwan and a few others but really cannot take out any of the players I have chosen already.....

Now, an all time squad of 25.... ....We would win this Premier League easily :)

    In fact, on reflection....

    GK Woods
    RB Culverhouse
    LB Bowen
    CB Bruce
    CB Watson
    CM Crook
    CM Townsend
    RW Fox
    LW Huckerby
    ST Ashton
    ST Bellamy

    Subs
    Gunn
    Drury
    Linnigan
    Eadie
    Gordon
    Fleck
    Sutton

Too many to decide, but think this is definately my final choice....

I would agree it would be very hard for any of the current squad to get in a all time best team.

Here is my team, based on what I have witnessed home & away over the years.
    GK Chris Woods
    LB Mark Bowen
    CB Dave Watson
    CB Steve Bruce
    RB Ian Culverhouse
    LW Darren Huckerby
    CM Ian Crook
    CM Martin Peters
    RW Ruel Fox
    CF Chris Sutton
    CF Phil Boyer

    Subs
    Kevin Keelan
    Adam Drury
    Jon Polsten
    Phil Mulryne
    Ted MacDougall
    Robert Fleck

Some might question Martin Peters but even when we had him towards the end of his career he was still a class above on & off the pitch <ok>

As it stands we'd have to say probably none of the current squad, if we stay up, it might change to all of them! ;)

Seriously though, I'd agree with Kenny's second line up, but I'd swap Disco Dale for Hucks.

Interesting that John Polston features in several of these line ups - but no sign of Malky Mackay ?

I realise it's all very subjective, though, and they can't all feature.

I'm not even going to attempt to pick a team from the players I've seen over the years.
Would love to see Big Dunc, but would be a tad concerned that he would finish many matches lol.

Top team, would probably have to include Drinkell in there.
