i agree with a lot of what ya say to be honest..especially about it being like christmas for them..there's no news like bad news and like you said, they did seem to love every minute of it. they could have been a lot more coy with the info that they had too instead of broadcasting it live to millions, stuff like cop numbers and where they were etc..i wouldn't say they were responsible, more irresponsible cause they need to be a hell of a lot more smarter with the info they have next time something like this kicks off.
I don't believe this nonsense. Everyone is responsible for their own actions. To blame anyone else is total crap. No one should be looking for excuses for these "people", they all knew it was wrong. Certainly there are underling conditions that need sorting, but that does not excuse any of this behaviour. It is the media's job to inform us as to what is happening in the country. Should they just have ignored it?
Thank God for some sense at last!! Poor wee rioters - it's not their fault. And it wasn't the fault of Rangers fans in Manchester, I mean the big telly broke, it was understandable really. What a disgrace we have become.
Half of these scumbags would not know how to open a newspaper let alone read it. If the media were responsible in was in a very minor way indeed, and no, they should not share the blame, in fact even typing that out makes me realise what a lot of bollocks this blame game really is. The only people responsible were the looters and rioters and to stretch your risible analogies to breaking point, I suppose the people who had their cars torched were partly to blame for leaving a shiny motor in the street, and shopkeepers and busineses responsible for putting nice things in the windows. Utter crap.
there was hardly any media cover the 2nd night of the riots if i remember, but everyone still knew what was going on through social media sites and forums like on here so don't think you can really blame them that much.
no blame game here I agree these people were scumbags for what they did and should be strung up However on analysis, there are a variety of 'factors' that are being put forward as an explanation In my view those factors may have been there in the first instance (as in the protest) but the media coverage of the 'helplessness' of the police lead to widespread looting It gave the scum the reason/courage/ whatever you want to call it It was irresponsible at the least and instigated at worst by the constant coverage of the inadequacies of policing
I think the OP is merely saying that the media didn't help matters. As in the police are out numbered, the police are standing back, the police have their hands tied, bla de bla.......# If they thought they were going to get a good kicking, they may have thought twice.
no one is saying ignore it or indeed cover it up. what I am saying is th emethodology/approach that was taken There was less emphasis on the riots/looting initially and more on the lack of policing, helplessness of the police etc I think what is happening here is what always happens, no looking at the complete picture the tottenham stuff was not the media, the manchester/birmingham some of london etc was imo largely down to the reporting/emphasis on the lack of police numbers etc again it want the only thing, but played a major role imo anyone who thinks the media doesnt have a measure of influence on public response/thought etc is naive imo currently you have the whole syria thing, and the condemnation lead by H. Clinton, but no mention of the israeli's building 1600 more housing where they shouldnt be according to UN law/resolutions The BBC only last month were guilty of falsifying pictures/stories and paying compensation the media is more influential than people think
