Even if it wasn't meant as a racial incident, the person throwing it was stupid as ****. Even if it was the only thing in his hand.
Yes it was stupid, as were all the others who threw stuff at him. But I don't think it was a racially motivated incident, it was simply anger boiling over.
There's a really interesting picture of John Barnes having banana's thrown at him. Grim picture but very powerful.
There are some appalling incidents of people throwing bananas at black players, which are definitely meant with a racist intent. The Adebayor one though, if you look at the context of the incident, I don't think is. If the guy had taken an apple with him, then it probably would have been that on the pitch instead.
It's Piskies " opinion " and understand it . BUT , it's my opinion the whole " Banana " thing was they were brought to the game to be thrown racially if the right racial situation arose . But like I say , we both could be right or wrong . Great thing about opinions , you only have your own .
Having listened to piskie and taken his view on board I don't think we can classify that incident as a racially motivated gesture towards barns, some bloke obviously just dropped his lunch
Possibly, but people do actually eat bananas you know. I always took a banana with me to a football match. Like I said, it's cheap, nutritious, easily available, easy to put in your pocket, and provides a slow release of potassium to keep your energy levels up
Yes, but only if you want to deliberately apply that rationale. However if you look at the context of the situation, it's more likely that it's simply an object that somebody just had to hand at the time. As the picture shows, there is a banana, a foot stall, a bottle, and some other random objects. It's not a racially motivated incident in my opinion, it's an outpouring of anger.
