Some Gooners threw bananas at him, if I recall. Dreadful. All Ade did was engage in a bit of top bantz for ****s and giggles, and that's how he was treated.
There was a banana on the pitch, thrown at Adebayor. But there was also all sorts of stuff chucked at him, basically anything that people had to hand. Not trying to condone it at all, but it was in no way a racially motivated incident.
Juan Sabastian Veron . I met Ginger once , I moved toward him , he moved toward me .. finally I threw a banana a him and moved on to the next cage .
As I said, there was all sorts of crap thrown at him. It was whatever people had to hand. Do you really think that a Gooner took a Banana to the game, specifically with the intent of throwing it at Adebayor, knowing that he would do what he did ?
I have never taken a banana to any kind of sporting event, Pix, and if I did it wouldn't cross my mind to throw it at any player, let alone a black player.
Because there was an array of stuff thrown at him, the banana was likely just another object that somebody had to hand. As I said, do you really think somebody saved a banana specifically to throw at him, knowing that he would run the length of the pitch as he did ?
I have my doubts that you've ever actually attended any sporting event, but even so, why wouldn't somebody have a banana. I used to take banana with me to almost every football match, cheap, nutritious and much better for you than the greasy ****e you pay £10 for in the concession stands. As for the throwing, as I keep saying, it was simply just another object that somebody had to hand, they were throwing all sorts of stuff at him.
Hang on a minute, Pix... What the hell went through that idiot's mind in the instant before he had the thought to throw the banana? If you are going to throw anything at a black player, surely to God you would know that you should not be throwing a banana! It's abhorrent enough that anything is thrown, but a banana? Are you seriously suggesting that throwing a banana at a black player would not have had some significance in the mind of the perpetrator?
As I said, it was just a spur of the moment thing, people just threw whatever they could get their hands on. Take a look at the picture, there are all sorts of objects being thrown at him. People are trying to shoe-horn a racially motivated context into something that was simply an expression of anger. please log in to view this image
Why would they specifically be waiting for that? It wouldn't be the first time that people have taken bananas to football games to throw at black players, would it? They might have just taken the first good opportunity. It was an away game 200-odd miles away from North London. I doubt that anyone that goes to that sort of tie has such a limited knowledge of football that they'd fail to recognise the implications. You're bending over backwards to give them the benefit of the doubt.
I doubt he stopped and thought 'I wonder if this incident will be misinterpreted by those who don't know my mind as a racially motivated gesture ?' Whoever threw it probably just threw it because it's what they had in their hand at the time.
Yeah... melons, mangos, pineapples... hell, I think I can even make out a Black Mamba dildo in there, somewhere! Jesus wept, Pix! You're pushing it too far, this time, mate.
You are trying to shoe-horn a racially motivated gesture into something that was contextually borne out of anger. Look at the picture, there are all sorts of objects being thrown, simply focusing on the banana and extrapolating that it was a racist incident is taking it out of context. My opinion is that it was simply an object that somebody had to hand and in the moment they threw it at him.
