sorry for another riot thread, but i think everyone has blamed all and sundry yet it is obvious as to the real cause of the riots Think about it, the duggan fella gets shot, there is a 'peaceful protest' which goes a bit wrong The media start saying things like 'there are NO police' , 'the police are NOT doing anything', 'the police are STANDING back' added to this they start going on about social media and how it could be used to organise etc, this then happens so what started of as a protest against percieved/actual police brutality, becomes a free for all They then start going on about the black community, now it is about kids Yet i you look at the court cases so far, it was an obvious free for all with teachers, students, rich and middleclass people, all looting the buck stops with the media imo, what do you think?
on another note, syd has closed the tag vote thread because the people have spoken and he doesnt like it
He closed it because Mick gave his explanation for it and announced that there would be a replacement for repping.
True but the media definately didn't help the situation. The idiots probably never heard of Twitter before the media announced that it could be abused in the way it has
exactly how did the rioters know that the police would be small in numbers, easily given the run around, and were not making arrests?
We have already established that while the media didn't cause or start the riots they did contribute to making them worse.
They might have created the window. It was a bunch of scum who smashed it. To be fair the media did fan the flames a bit (err...) but they only reported what happened. And the police only re-acted, albeit way too slowly.
why ? are you telling me that the riots in manchester, birmingham were not a result of seeing how 'easy' it was and who made it look easy? the media are the reason for most 'copycat' crimes this is one of the reason the police dont give certain info to the media
as always there will be fingers pointed in one direction or another, but the real issues will stay unresolved there were scum involved in the riot/looting, however it may suprise you to know that some people were being 'opportunistic' as in they are not criminals per se, but got dragged along Its a bit like burglary, there are those who are hardcore burglars who plan and execute burglaries then there is the person who takes a purse that has been left on the window sill and the window left open Both crimes, but different
everyone could see it was piss easy to go loot and set buildings on fire. it doesnt mean it's an excuse for it to be done. people need to take some ****ing responsibility over their actions and stop passing the buck. the media didn't set buildings on fire. neither did they mow 3 guys down and kill them.
and to think all this because some wannabe gangsta drug dealer scumbag carrying an illegal wepaon got what he deserved
of course it isnt, i agree but that wasnt the point the point is that the media re taking the moral high ground, yet imo they are responsible for what happened on the wider scale due to their 'need' to feed the story If i was to advertise that i was going away for the weekend and leaving my doors unlocked i shouldnt be suprised at being burgled doesnt mean i should be, but you get the picture
Another thing I hate is the media complaining about Cameron being on holiday when it all went down. What do they expect him to do? Stand on a milk crate with a megaphone and shout 'stop it'?
