Didn't think that would be legal, but I guess anything goes in America. Weird how normally these racists are supposed to be patriots proud of their flag but show allegiance to the people their forefathers tried to stop.

I had no idea South Carolina was famous for anything to be honest!!

Myrtle Beach gets more visitors than Orlando each year. (Or at least it did back in the 90's... Not sure if that stat is still accurate). Probably not many foreign tourist though. You get two types of Myrtle Beach tourists: Yanks in cooler months from the yank states trying to escape the cold weather and Southerners in the summer to escape the heat by getting to the ocean.

It's probably the trashiest redneckiest beach in the world. Native South Carolinians are very proud of it though.

I'm half interested going there just because it seems like such a bizarre place to go to from your description <laugh>

Looked it up. This is no longer true. MB's growth has been rather flat only growing a few million to 16mill a year. Orlando gets over 60 mill a year visitors.

The beach is actually really nice if you ignore the people. The water is swimmable in March if you can tolerate cold water. When I've been that time of year the only people in the water with me are Canadians (it gets a lot of Canadians). By May even softies can tolerate the water temps.

It's VERY commercial. Gift shops, bars, high rise hotels, etc everywhere. Half the shops are for spray painted t shirts. Or rebel flag paraphanalia. The others are gun and knife shops. The main strip is a redneck paradise. Inland they have more genericy tourist town places : hard rock, Ripley's Believe or not, aquarium, zoo, alligator parks, same stuff you find in the touristy Florida towns or Smokey mountain theme park areas.

Late august it is covered in stinging jellyfish.

If you ever went, unless you like being surrounded by rednecks, I would recommend staying in one of the slightly less built up beaches (Litchfield, or North Myrtle) same deep sandy beaches and you can drive to the redneck centre to see the godawful hell that is Myrtle Beach's main strip.

Tempting to go there for a few days if I ever go to watch the Masters, which I really want to go watch at least once, its not that far is it? Augusta doesn't seem like a brilliant tourist place to stay.

Augusta is another trashy city. <ok>. Not as touristy just a bit of a dump. I've never been to the Masters though, the area around the golf course I'm sure is nice (usually is nice around golf courses).

I know a number of people who live in Augusta if you need advice for staying there.

It's probably about a 3hr drive from Augusta to MB.

If you like golf and like beaches, Hilton Head Island is a fantastic place. I'm not much of a golf fan, but HH is one my favourite "local" beachs. It's probably about 2 hr from Augusta. The whole island is covered in golf courses. It's a whole lot classier than Myrtle Beach (or most American beaches in general). It's got a decent amount of touristy stuff without being overdone.

If you like camping or solitude, Hunting Island (not far from HH) is a state park. Miles of beaches and no development allowed. Only camp sites. I've been on the beach in early spring and not seen another soul on the beach. We usually go camp at Hunting Island every year to two years.

Hunting Island is fun for wildlife too. Some of the rock pools formed by the groynes collect lots of tiny hermit crabs, shrimp, fish, etc. See more living creatures in the ocean than elsewhere. I've never seen one, but loggerhead turtles come ashore a lot there. (There's usually some protected areas you can't go where a nest is found). Dolphins out in the sea close to shore. Alligators in the spartina on the mainland side of the island.

Don't listen to them Milk, they're both ****ers anyway <whistle>, I'll give you a shout when I'm planning to go over so I can get some advice, though I imagine this site will have eroded away to the point where we can't even communicate with each other by then seeing as all the functions are failing one by one and nobody seems bothered.
