Complete bollocks. We have attempted 469 shots on goal. This is the second most in the league, just behind the super-attacking Liverpool on 473. The only 2 other sides over 400 attempts are United and City on 449 and 428 respectively.

Our goalkeepers have made the second most saves of the top 6 sides with 61, behind Arsenal 78 and ahead of Liverpool 54, United 53, Chelsea 51 and City44 [through choosing not to have a goalkeeper].

We come 9th in the PL for goals scored from fast breaks.Top are Chelsea, who really area side built around a defence.

The reason Tottenham have conceded so few goals is that we have the best defensive players in the PL, not because we spend a great deal of time defending. If you look at our back 3 you will find that they all come forward with the ball and set up chances and goals, however, none of them dive in to challenges, all of them understand their roles and behind them we have a top goalkeeper. We employ super-fast full/wing backs who can go forward and back extremely well. Yes, we have 2 midfielders in the pivot positions who are complete beasts but their job is mostly to keep the ball in the opposition's half, not to defend our's.

Going to disagree. Pochs priority is not to concede a goal and you always have at least 4 people behind the ball when you are attacking not over committing.

Going by those stats you are either saying your attack is a bunch of wasters who cant finish their chances or maybe its because kane alli eriksen and especially son love shooting from 30 yards most games.

Im not going to say that chelsea have scored more goals and are more attacking because of that as i know that contes first priority is to make sure chelsea are solid.

Your two beasts are to make sure you control the game and possession and ensure your solid. Not to make sure you are scoring goals. It would be very different if you had winks in there as hes a ball player.

Managers like simeone conte and poch are very much make sure the team doesnt concede first.

We will just have to agree to disagree.

Thought i would add you have been much better since you went to 3 at the back.

Very functional at the beginning of the season as a 4

You're still a million miles away from the reality of our play.

Are we different from other sides? Yes, we attack differently. Our main attacking efforts are centrally located. Although we have Rose and Walker, we cross the ball less than most sides at the top of the table. We try to restrict the opposition's ability to get at us by winning the ball in their half of the pitch. If you watch Victor Wanyama, you'll see the positions he takes up are very advanced. He's primarily there to win the ball well up the pitch and keep us there. Secondarily, he's there to snuff out counter-attacks. We can do this because our back three read the game so well and have pace and excellent defensive skills.

We don't have a 'free' attacking player like Hazard, Aguero, Ibrahimovic or Ozil who is there solely to attack. Increasingly, forward players are expected to press the opposition, that's why players like Aguero and Sturridge are under threat. and possibly why, despite Ibrahimovic's goals, United are still 6th. Even those teams that are considered highly attacking are going to work hard to press teams in all positions with all of their players, just like we do. That's an attack minded move. It's progressive, front foot and all that, practised by managers that are considered exactly that and it's precisely what we do - attack from all positions.Their defensive records are so much worse than ours because they have poor players in more defensive positions and poor goalkeepers.

I'll grant you that we are physical and combative but we're not defensive as the statistics make very, very clear and any of our supporters will confirm. Even when we are moving the ball between the back 3 players, they are looking for a long pass to Dele or one of the full backs because they have an attacking element to their game. Our back 3 players bring the ball out of defence themselves and will regularly be seen on the edge of the opposition's box. They're all skilled footballers who have the licence to go forward and hurt the opposition.

Finally, In the games where we've been pinned back and had to defend - City and Liverpool away, we've been awful defensively and should have lost comprehensively in both. When it comes to being defensive, we fall apart and I can't think of a game where we've 'shut up shop' because it wouldn't work. Our primary defensive tactic is to pin the opposition in their own half and get the ball off them and in their net.

  4. Jose Mourinho has ruled Wayne Rooney out of Manchester United's Europa League game with Rostov due to injury.
Mourinho says Rooney "needs a kick in his arse area".

I may have misinterpreted this slightly <laugh>

As a man who prefers not to wear collar and tie, I don't always find myself in agreement with OS's views on our manager's appearance. However, the BBC have this picture of the current Manchester United manager at today's press conference...

Holy mackerel. He looks like he slept, upside down, in a wheelie bin for a week before going on a 3 day bender with Oliver Reed.

Just taken these from our first half against West Brom a short while ago:

That's the average position of each player. We have eight in their half, while they have one in ours.
One's a genuinely defensive side, while the other plays a high line and applies constant pressure.
Danny Rose is playing further forward than Kane and he scored a hat-trick.

He looks like he's spent some time in the cells and is having his bail hearing. Good job they didn't lose 2-0, eh?

Apparently they got back to Manchester from Stamford Bridge at 4am due to some traffic and plane problems. I'd have pulled a sickie.

and you absolutely battered them in the first half. Likewise i could do the same with chelsea at everton which isn't too dissimilar (unfortunately, i don't have opta pro so i can't go and find average positions). I could argue we are an attacking side (we are but the onus is on a strong defence first).

Anyway enough of this tom foolery, lets just be happy that both our teams are doing well, scoring shedloads of goals and we get to laugh at Arsenal and Liverpool

2008...battered goons 5-1 (then sold Defoe) on way to league cup final where we beat Chelsea.
Went on to make our worst league start in our history (after keane and Berbatov ****ed us over) before sacking Ramos and bring in Harry.
Oh...and the goons were 4 -2 up with 2 mins left and they still ****ed it up <laugh>

2008 - PL and CL double, CR7's first Ballon D'Or. On the whole, quite satisfactory....

2008: fans of Newcastle said we were going down, while fans of Leeds said they'd be playing us in the Championship the following season

Come back in 2009 to see how those predictions worked out...

Funny thing.I used to enjoy watching Man U in the 1950-90 era. I no longer enjoy watching them since...and don't unless Spurs are involved
then again I hate watching Italian football...must be my age!

Master tactician Pep said they'd have to score to go through. He obviously knew he couldn't stop Monaco scoring at least two.

Man U. Very deep pockets gets a lot of trophies.
Man C. Very deep pockets and don't win much.
    The lesson being......?
