jck200 - most of them got their chance at Oxford because Malky had 8 first choice players unavailable through international duty. That won't be the case against Huddersfield and I expect him to put out a very strong side. The "knock in confidence" issue you raise about those who did get a game at Oxford is not relevent. The youngsters are on a learning curve and will have to wait their chance - they know that.
The good thing is Malky looks more than happy to give them a chance. Good to see Mason coming on at 0-0 against West Ham. A bold move. We need to develop our young players. Im still gutted at the treatment of Adam Matthews. He should still be with us and on a long term contract. Still time to move on and im sure we are now heading in the correct direction. Short term loans will benefit some of them.
Play a simular line-up to the Oxford game, but with a strong bench to fall back on, give Earnie a lot of game time with Parkin, they really should be enough at this level, the youngsters would have learnt from the Oxford game and the best way to improve is to play in these type of games. We haven't got in the amount of players we need to cover these games at any decent level really.
Am I just being nostalgic.... I really used to forward to big league cup nights at Ninian Park, I remember acquiting ourselves quite well against the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal back in the day. Back on thread as someone has already pointed out I don't think this will be a footballing decision. It will be how the board perceive this competition.
Sayer - do you really believe that mate? I can't believe that Malky will accept being told what sort of theam to put out - he'll want to win it and will insist on picking the team to do it.
Sparky, I think what I was trying to say is that the board may say to MM make sure we are in the hat next round. A sell out on a Tuesday / Wednesday night is a bonus. I would like to think team matters are totally down to him but you know what the beancounters are like.
