Off to see this tomorrow night, might just enjoy it as well. Dust off your guitars, we’re putting the band back together Thursday 9 March 2017 please log in to view this image The fantastically inspiring show, Putting the Band Back Together, is coming to Hull. Unfolding Theatre and Little Mighty have teamed up to tell a beautiful story in the form of a live gig. Putting the Band Back Together follows the story of Mark Lloyd, who decided to reform his old band after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. The musical will be performed at Hull Truck Theatre next week. We spoke with Director Annie Rigby to find out more. please log in to view this image “The show moves between a sequence of songs and monologues to tell Mark’s story,” says Annie. “Each song, which is composed by Ross Millard from The Futureheads, represents a different part of his life.” Mark sees his life as a ten track album and the songs are played as he tells his story. “Mark was unfortunately diagnosed with terminal cancer back in 2014,” Annie explains. “He was a long-time friend and collaborator of the theatre company, so Putting the Band Back Together serves as a celebration and a tribute to him.” please log in to view this image The show explores the emotions that come with playing music: “Many people who played in their teenage years stopped for no real reason, other than growing up with less free time,” says Annie. “Personally, I played a lot of music when I was younger, but then gave up. And when you pick up your instrument or start singing again, the emotions you experience can be huge.” “I was already considering making a show about people’s relationships to music and playing in bands, but Mark’s story was my true inspiration.” Whilst working on the show, Annie tells us that she felt there was a genuine spirit in everyone: “We must make the most of our time and spend our lives doing the things that we love.” please log in to view this image Annie hopes that the show will encourage more people with dusty guitars propped up in their bedrooms to pick up their passion once more. “We’ve had quite a lot of people contact us after seeing the show who have started doing what they loved again,” she enthuses. “Whether that’s attending open mic nights, playing football or dancing, it’s great that we’re able to reignite old interests.” Audiences also have a chance to get directly involved in the show: “Hundreds have joined our house band,” Annie explains. “We ask people who want to be involved to arrive a couple of hours before the show starts. They can then rehearse with our band and play in front of their local audience on the night.” please log in to view this image Whether you want to get involved or just cheer on local heroes, this show promises to create a vibrant, heartwarming experience. “People should come along because it’s a fun, silly show with an important message. If you love music, it’s definitely the one for you. We have some really beautiful songs.” Putting the Band Back Together is at Hull Truck Theatre from Wednesday 15 to Thursday 16 March. Tickets are £12.50 or £10.50 for concessions. To book, please call the box office on 01482 323638 or visit hulltruck.co.uk

Was in town an hour ago and workmen doing something on the outside of the Edwin Davis's store, and scaffold has gone up at the upper floors of Admiral Of The Humber, the place has been empty for yonks. The paving work seems to be drawing to a close in several places, but I think town will look a bit bare when the blade disappears, can't it stay there and then get some graffiti artists to do something about the C.O.C. on it?
Not really CoC, but Papa's Fish & Chips won the BBC Best of British Takeaways (Fish & Chip category) this week. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/papa...keaways-show/story-30203301-detail/story.html
Is that the Willerby in the East Riding Of Yorkshire? They've opened up a rather impressive one near Scarborough. Not quite as good as 149 in Brid though.
It is, though they call it their Hull branch, despite it being in Willerby. I've still not got round to giving it a try yet.
Saw that prog. The Cypriots (frying in beef) were up against a small south coast husband and wide chippy (cod ffs) and some ex Michelin chef who has a gourmet fish and chips with a twist in the crapital. Not convinced they were the best, they just competed the jokey challenges slightly better. No better than Viking on Anlaby rd or Carlton near Malt Shovel who de-skin and de-bone your Bessie. Don't **** about, it's not rocket science. Just requires local Hull folk diong the basics with correct ingredients. No fried chicken, burgers or kebabs, or even chip spice. Just plenty of salt and vinegar.
They've also got one in Swiss Cottage and opening one on Cleethorpes Peer. They're doing really well.
Been to that one and the Scarborough one. Decent value and quality. Must be doing something right as they are always busy.
They are all over. Started off in Margate in 1966. A year memorable for a football occasion. Hull City won the Third Division. Also the year more people were killed on the roads in peacetime than any other year.
