Which is a good thing.

I do wonder at times whether some of the modern day players see themselves as celebrities.

 

Of course they do.

 

To be fair its probably because they are.

 

Wouldn't it be better if some of that money was used to subsidise ticket prices so that the people who provide it in the first place see the benefit?
I've no time for grossly overpaid footballers acting like prima donnas while the grass-roots support is priced out of the game.

 

Well they are treated like celebrities.

Ones who piss me off are the cretins who make fame through reality TV crap.

 

They are celebrities these days mate. Multi millionaire celebrities at that.

 

Is it our fault i.e. the fans or the media or the clubs for paying them far too much?

 

Its nothing to do with the money, its about the amount of time they are in the spotlight. They are on TV three times a week all year round, that wasn't the case before plus you've got all the exposure to them on social media through platforms like twitter, facebook etc.

 

Interesting point but if that were true why aren't they all walking around like they're film stars?

 

They do, you just don't see them

Go out on town anywhere in country and probably be easy to spot the footballers as they are given preferential treatment to your average Joe as they normally spend more money.

 

They do, look at the likes of Balotelli, Pogba, Ronaldo etc.

 

Can't say I've seen Jay Spearing on the cover of OK or - let's use a really great player as another example, Suarez - racing around in a gold Bentley ...

 

Jay Spearing is a league 1 player. The celebrity equivalent would be someone who went on big brother and got knocked out in the first week.

I don't see what being a celebrity has to do in relation with flaunting your wealth, not even film stars do that anymore, most of them don't need to flaunt their wealth because people already know they have money.

 

My original point was players seeing themselves as celebrities and I don't think most of them do. Most are recognised when they go out as footballers but others like those you highlighted - Ronaldo, Pogba and especially Balotelli act like they are celebrities first and foremost with their garish jewellery, cars, houses, model girlfriends etc. Players like Kuyt, Carragher and Henderson stay humble and out of the spotlight.

 

I think the thing can come down to whos got agents and firms falling over themselves to get to them and who hasnt.

Henderson is a england player and captain of a biggish club but hes never a big draw so hes not going to get away with a johnny big balls attitude.

A beckham can and half the forwards in the prem think they can too.

Chelsea... hazard fancies himself. But the biggest ego is costa.

City. Yaya is ridiculous but not many others. Sterling is prob the worst partier

Everton. Obviously next biggest club and lukaku is a huge ego.

Arsenal are all egos and babies really. None are huge partiers in public but giroud clearly fancies himself.

Spurs... not too bad. Lamela meant to ne a wide boy.

Liverpool. Lallana cuaght for strip clubs. Nivea ads... we got rid of a few. Firmino clearly is self obsessed. Sakho.. jesus.

Finally utd. Zlatan... pobga biggest divas of all.

The thing is theres not many "bad pros" amongst them is there? You simply dont get there if you are. Sadly lfc seemed to ignore the bad pro warnings and got a lot of them in.

I agree rheres guys who dont get big deals and appear out of line light but that doesnt mean they dont party with the best of them in private or in us or dubai.

In fact just perhaps some of them just ensure they dont end up on social media so our ignorance is bliss.

However in general you dont get to a top 6 club without knuckling down to the wok required

A lot of guys like hart for instance are more than happy do a silly ad if paid.

Its just a question of hetting an offer.

In general.....at the top image rights are negotiated hard with clubs and often that more than enough for some players. Pogbas image right must be huge at utd with all the idiots buying his jersey etc this summer. I saw some scumbag manc with his twin boys in pogba shirts.

If you asked your run of the mill missus shed not know many footballers names but shed be able to name rhose whove courted the media as much as possible like beckham did.

These days theres a lot of wags but ive no idea which is he most fame hungry.

We cannot forget rooney and coleen chased that posh and becks rep as hard as their skally legs could carry them...

I suppose the money is now that big that chasing cheap fame and a couple more mil might be less attractive now.
