I wasn't around back in the good old days of football but i still really enjoy football (as you all would if Liverpool actually had a chance :p, you guys were loving suarez).

However i would say the following greiviances i see the most or feel myself:

    1. Money - people cant afford to go to football and if they do go and get served up **** its no fun for everyone when you've spent a small fortune on it. Plus its so popular nowadays you can't actually get tickets for games easily or at all

    2. Mercenary footballers - people attribute this to the money in the sport. I actually think its a modern phenomenon whereby (especially footballers who are of the younger generation) society has developed into a more materialistic and i'm alright jack society where money seems to be at the centre of everything rather than the money in the game (although that is a by product).

    3. Entertainment - there are no longer those super star players who can seemingly beat teams single handedly if he didn't have a good team. People taking on people from the half way line is few and far between. Tactics, cynical tactical fouls and just general professionalism so that even the most average of players are fit and powerful means back in the 70s and 80s where players can win single handedly is a very rare thing. Saying that i'm in favour of outlawing dangerous tackles, imagine a team like boro or stoke thriving on such thuggery. no thanks

His voicemails aren't much different to on here. The only difference to reality is that he pretends that he doesn't know how to take a photo. :bandit:

I will be honest and really think any footballer would have been as mercenary in the old days if they could move. The corrpution and abuse at the top back then is well documented

And honestly players beating lots of lads from half way was rare in any era imo. In the olden days you could smash them.

Nobody in the 70s and 80s won by just having one player

Ajax had cryuff yes but barca didnt win 3 european cup having got him did they.

    Lfc had a whole team.

Utd in 60s had a team not only best.

Players accepting big money moves isn't an issue for me. These guys are providing for families not just for now but for generations.

And anyone else in society would do the same.

Everybody wants to be comfortable, but not everybody wants to grab as much as they can possibly get.
Do you really believe players are thinking of future generations while they're raking it in?

Yes I do. Because a lot of these 'money grabbing' players often come from poor backgrounds - britains view of poor is considered luxury to people who are from the slums of Brazil.

We shouldn't be judging these players - let them make their own decisions. People are just jealous IMO.

That is certainly true of some, but not all.
I don't share your faith in their altruism, I've seen too much of human nature for that.

That poor background argument holds no ****ing sentiment with me.

Jimmy most of these ****s earn more in a WEEK!!! Than your average worker gets in 5yrs ffs, and they still moan like spoilt brats.

They kick a ****ing football around and most don't appreciate how lucky they are not needing to have 3 jobs just to pay the bills. Couldn't give a **** if they come from the slums or chelsea.

Sorry but that comment ****ing irritated me.

We have money grabbing selfish players from both backgrounds: rich middle class as well as dirt poor slum dwelling. And we have philanthropic selfless players who want to make a difference in their communities too from poor backgrounds. How many times have we heard that these players have built schools and academies with the fortunes they accumulated?

It is not their fault if clubs via BT and Sky are offering astonishing amounts of money for playing football. An average premiership footballer could earn £25m in a 10 year career.

Within reason it is fair that the players get a good share of the money generated by the game, if not it would just go into the back pocket of the millionaire owners. I think what annoys people are the stories of players "moaning they are only on £120k a week, and deserve more".

City 1 up already after 2.5 minutes, it was their 4th chance of the game. This could be a massacre

    I agree with this.

As an old timer I much preferred the days when we knew very little, if anything, of how much players earned. It seems unreal now that players actually hopped the bus to the game. Not forgetting the original idea for testimonials was to see the players were financially alright into their retirement. With the possibility of only a very limited period in which to earn, clubs tried to do the right thing so their families had a nest egg. How many ex-players went on to have other occupations is probably not listed but could you even imagine that nowadays? Rooney retires and takes up window cleaning to make ends meet <laugh>

I always thought that Craig Bellamy was a right moaning ****. Even when he played for us he was a little ****... But then I found out about his work in Sierra Leone and all the money he's poured in there and now I like the fella. He didn't come from a particularly poor background but he has paid back big time. Top bloke.

when i was a lad our milkman was an ex pro who had a league winners medal and approx 20 England caps. Somehow doubt that we will see that with this generation.
