Well that's quite the development! I'd presumed he had plenty of time from the board.
If it was purely results based, or the board were waiting for a performance-related clause to be triggered, you'd have imagined the axe would have fallen within 24 hours of the Bristol result. Given Jerome's comments midweek, it feels like the board have talked about things and decided there's no way Neil can regain a sense of togetherness. Given Jerome's widened those comments to the coaching staff in general, Irvine as a temporary replacement doesn't fill me with hope.
Medium term, this is about the right time to make a change assuming the board can bring the right man in soon. There's enough competitive games left to evaluate the squad before the summer and make plans, and to try to convince our best players to buy in to another season here.
Longer term, I really think this next appointment is the last one the board get before the backlash against them gets pretty sizeable. As to who that might be I've no idea, but I'd hope for some experience. It sound like harmony in the camp might be hard to obtain without someone the players respect the moment he walks in.

Could the board get AN for 'constructive dismissal' after his ineptitude in bringing Bassong on for Murphy on Tuesday, when he knows he needed to bring Godfrey on for Tettey earlier??

Couple of other alternatives
A) The board is being very shrewd and getting him to send a shot across the experiences players bows knowing that a new manager can come in and change things
B) The board didn't lick the fact that AN was going to get rid of all the deadwood so sacked him.
Personally I'm inclined to go with the obvious answer, which is the board are incompetent.

Me too, but I can't see our board appointing 2 people to those posts without one of them having a link to Norwich and I'd rather any manager that was appointed had no previous link to Norwich. Not sure what else a new structure could mean.
Is Alex Neil the only Norwich manager to have never lost the East Anglian Derby ?

I'd personally like to see Pardew or Rowett come in. Warburton isn't too bad either.
Any of them would be better than Neil has been over the last year! Its a shame because he gave us one of (THE in my case) best days of my Norwich City life.
We will probably stuff Blackburn tomorrow and end up with Irvine as manager though :/

Is there another Smith nephew lurking who fancies a cushy job?
Is this potentially a "director of football" approach? Steve Stone has picked up some experience as acting CEO to potentially allow him to run the business side of things, with a new board member to come in with the remit to focus purely on footballing matters?
The one thing the club do seem to be getting right at the moment is the youth recruitment, and that can't be allowed to be dictated by the whims of the current manager. A director of football might help there. I've no names for that, but someone with serious experience of the game.
