I don't subsidise this **** so it was a first for me with BT tonight. Great spread of pundits: Owen, Gerrard and McManaman the co-commentator, And people wonder why there are so many armchair LFC losers in this country.
You can't really use that as a comparison, Istanbul is the Turkish capital in all but name, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk moved the capital to central Anatolia to make a break with The Ottoman Empire's Constantinople and its associations. There's a similar theme in Brazil with Brasilia.
Well you can if you're talking about capital cities as they are now. If we were in 1910's it wouldn't be accurate. Plus Berlin only has one major club, Hertha (great ground, great fans, seen a few games) as the other one, Union Berlin, has never been considered a major rival competitively and spent most of it's recent years in the regional leagues.
Yes, but the original post was about how many teams were in the capital, not how many were in the top flight. Though thinking of Ankara was a good spot.
Ah. Even so, it seems many capital cities had a few teams back in the day, but in recent times the fans have flocked to one club and the others have faded away.
Of course for a long time the German capital, Bonn, didn't have a top flight team. Hertha Have a chequered history to see the least. Would love to see Humberside Plod dealing with those great fans.
They'd have no chance. If we ever got back into Europe and drew a team from Russia or Germany, we'd be ****ed. With all due respect, England fans are a bunch of ****ing fannies compared to some of these guys.
There isn't now. There was another club until 2 or 3 years ago. Typical of my luck when I was in Brussels donkey's years ago they were at home and Anderlecht were away. When I was in Rotterdam Sparta were at home and Feyenoord away.
I had that when I went to Edinburgh. Hearts were away and I won't go see Hibs. So I went to see Edinburgh City against Whitehill Welfare. Good fun, weird stadium though.
Edinburgh was always the one to catch people out a few years back when asked to name the British cities with 3 teams.
I had a similar thing back in 2010 when all our games against London teams were at home (I was based in London so they were 'away' though) and I couldn't get up to Hull, and then the majority of London C'Ship games were at home for the start of the season, except Milwall.
Yes. About the size of North Ferriby. Though you thought The Hague was the capital. So at least this thread has broadened your knowledge.
Quill, we've had our spats, but I couldn't agree more. The media reaction is bile inducing and in particular this BT Sport clip. Yes Gary Lineker has reason to celebrate, which he does the least of the group as it happens, but why are Rio and Gerrard going wild in jubilation? And don't even get me ****ing started on Owen, he should be sat motionless pissed off. But then anyone who is happy to pull on a Man Utd shirt after his supposed beloved Liverpool...
Does anyone know, pre match, what odds Barca were to a) qualify and b) win the tournament? Really annoyed I didn't put a bet on and I'm hoping the odds weren't as great as I fear.
