Haha! No, it happened when they were out on a jolly and the worse the wear from strong drink, so it wasn't a legitimate naval exercise! I believe they were fortunate not to be hurled from the cliffs by furious locals!

Now you come to mention it, wasn't there an attempt to destabilise it again, hence my mistaken memory.?

You may be right, but I honestly don't know. It would make sense as it would restore the tourist attraction to its full working glory.

Nope - still think it's a big con - 24 hours on and no photo that looks authentic!

I'm not wading through this thread, so apologies up front if already posted. But the subject of British kids being shipped to Australia to start a new life has been doing the rounds again for the last couple of weeks. something else came up on the radio just now and reminded me again. It's actually quite old news and the goings on were first discovered in the early 1980's, I believe. Here's a BBC article from 2006: http://www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/eastmidlands/series9/week_nine.shtml
An Independent article from 1993: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/t...-child-migrants-were-sent-abroad-1484622.html
You don't have to dig deep at all as there are loads of articles scattered across the media and time.

It keeps popping up because new stuff comes to light. For example, a significant number of the kids lived in camps and were physically and sexually abused routinely, never knowing what love was. They were 'deported' just after the war, upto the 1970's, so the numbers must be huge. And most of them have family still here. Breaks my bloody heart for them. Course, the bleeding Catholic religion was involved again. That's the one I was born into and left well alone.

I read an interesting book about the subject a few years back, the name of it escapes me at the moment though...

And of course, the Irish SOLD their unwanted children to couples in the USA. Kept the odd Irish Catholic nunnery going, that little scam. The film Philomena, starring Judi Dench and Steve Coogan, documents one true experience of an unmarried mother sent to a convent with her shame - her pregnancy. She gave birth to a son and he was purchased. Great eh.?

Taking a two week break, in our house in Spain.
Going through the drawers, looking for clothes that fit (I've lost weight since returning to work last August, after taking time off to look after my wife) I came across these three shirts. Bonus is that I can now fit into all of them.
Might have to find room for them in the suitcase. Would have been tempted to have worn the white one to Wembley.
