Just got done for speeding. Caught by a camera doing 49mph in 40mph zone. Pedantic ****s

Anyway I can apply to go on a speed awareness workshop and avoid the £100 fine and 3 points. Anybody been on one of these before ? And do they generally have any Totty there or is it full of fat middle aged blokes ? Thanks

Done about 4 of them. Generally it's a mix of people, and as boring as ****. If you take the piss or try and have a laugh it doesn't go down well. Half a day of your life you won't get back

At which the 'host' will insist on telling you it would be 'safer' to cut the motorway speed limit to 60mph and every single person on the course, bar maybe some bird, will tell them adamantly back that that's bollocks and it should be increased to at least 80.

At this point stalemate is reached.

I got nicked in 4 different counties in the space of about 18 months and they didn't have a shared database, so I had the dubious pleasure of being some sort of speed awareness course reviewer. They were all ****e.

There was an old girl on one of them, who must have been knocking 80 and she dragged it right out. The entire room was transmitting STFU to her via the medium of a glare.

Didn't you realise you had to pay for the privilege mate?

I did mine before the fine went up to £100, and I paid £95 a pop for the course when the speeding fine was £60

Indeed, my course was £85 when the fine was fifty!!

You're just paying to not have points.

The letter from the old bill said something about an admin fee. Didnt realise it would cost as much as the fine. Cheeky ****s. Another money making scheme in my opinion. Yes I was speeding, but 49mph in a 40mph zone on a major A road (I was probably slowing down from a 60mph national speed limit zone) is hardly reckless driving. ****ers.

It's got **** all to do with road safety and everything to do with revenue generation.

I once got done on a 2 mile straight on an open country A road, at about 8.30 pm, not a soul in sight. The slippery twats had hidden the van in a field behind some bushes and placed a mini gatso road side in the dark. <doh>

You won't avoid the fine, just prevent the points if you go on one of them courses..I could be wrong. No Totty, women are too slow, hesitant, to get caught.

    ****z.

The whole issue of speed and road safety seems to be measured by a rigid yardstick, rather than about actual road conditions and other factors that affect safety.

Point in case. I live near a road that is 30mph in a residential area. The road has two pedestrian terraces that lead directly onto it (there is no pavement) it also has a alley way which cars accessing private garages pull out into and along one side of this road there are parked cars. At these three points (two terraces and alleyway) school children cross and walk along (no pavement). There is also an old people's home along one of the terraces so elderly people also cross as this point. It's also used by dog walkers and there are cats, dogs and children within the vicinity regularly as it's a residential area with many of the houses front gardens leading directly onto the road. Just before these 'crossing ' points, the road has a slight bend so that drivers are unable to see ahead until they are almost upon this three point area. In summary it's dangerous for pedestrians.

I emailed the local highways agency to suggest that they put in some kind of traffic claiming measure I.e pinch point/ speed hump/ slow / pedestrian crossing sign etc. But was told that they had conducted speed assessments of he area and vehicles were travelling within the 30mph limit, so they would do nothing about it. I politely suggested that they hadn't properly assessed the actual conditions of that part of the road, and was then told that they budget only allows for them to make changes where proven accidents have taken place.

I.e. Highways agency are a reactionary outfit, rather than proactively trying to prevent accidents (although I appreciate that they only have a certain budget to wok within)

Seatbelt tickets? Why don't you just wear one? Got to be better than paying out for that, surely?
