But can your feet be in front of, on or behind the line you have drawn?

Amateur refs were on strike, this weekend. He must be taking it very seriously and striking from here as well.

If you fret about dodgy refereeing decisions in the Premiership spare a thought for my friends who are Partizan Belgrade fans here in Serbia. FACT: Partizan have not been awarded a penalty in a match against Red Star since 1995! This week the ball was kept in play (resulting in a goal) like this

My question is where does the field of play start? If a ball is half over the touch line, is the ball out of play or does the ball have to be completely over the line because the back of the touch line is not in the field of play. So if a player takes a throw in and his heel is on the touch line his whole foot is in the field of play and thus a illegal Throw-in. I played from 8 years old until my early 30's and that was my interpretation.

Certain people on here would totally disagree there's a lack of clarity from the FA regarding this <doh> Me? I'm with you & TSS!

Really not sure what you mean TSS, were you being pedantic about listening/reading?

Broadening the topic (OK, going slightly more off-topic), I propose scrapping throw ins completely in favour of an indirect free kick from the touchline (that's ON the touchline). The reason for this is that apart from the occasional long throw, 99% of throw ins involve the ball being played back to the thrower. Time is always wasted trying to find a player in space, and the whole exercise ends up with the ball back in the same place it was thrown from. So let's stop all the faffing around and let players kick the bloody thing into play. The game is called football after all.

In support of my argument I will cite field hockey, who did exactly the same thing with their throw ins a few years ago.

I'm sure that's been trialed in the past?

After Watfords first goal at the weekend...

Can anyone clarify what constitutes a foul throw? :bandit:

I'm impressed this conversation is still going. Woke this morning on holiday in the US to bickering about a throw in. Had breakfast, lunch and about to have my first (honest) glass of wine before dinner. And we still are mentioning the throw in.

Oh yes. I remember watching Bognor vs some team in the 90s. They trialed it for the whole season. You had a choice of standard throw or 'kick in', worked ok actually.

This throw in discussion is a lovely example of how lawyers make their money. Could keep a High Court judge busy for a week!
