Could work to our advantage. I've read a few different previews for our season and Sess is barely mentioned in any of them despite arguably being our best player! I think he's going to have a blinder of a season especially if he can continue his form of the end of last season and pre-season. When I've seen articles/threads from other teams predicting our possible starting line up he either hasn't been mentioned or not a lot is said about him. Here's hoping there's plenty of teams in for a shock when they play us! P.S. Because of this he's also fairly cheap in the various fantasy football leagues knocking around...
You guys WILL overrate him to a degree though. Much in the same way many of us probably overrate Ben Arfa slightly. It's just the bias towards the club.
Talk about overrating haha. I like Sessegnon despite being a Sunderland player and I unfortunately think he will have a good year, I just hope the rest of the team let him down He is in my fantasy league team, he replaced Ben Arfa for the time being.
why not? If Carrol can be sold for 30+, henderson for 20 then Sess could become 30m player (50m if he was english). However, to get that value he would need to be consistent and injury free throughout the season and score a bag of goals (15 +) and a decent amount of assists. Both achievable imo.
I think 30m may be a bit much given he is past mid 20s now. In 2 or 3 years he will be pushing 30 so not worth that amount. Still I am delighted many mags are dismissing him. We fell foul of it last year not rating the likes of Carroll and Barton and got burnt. Fingers crossed it happens the other way round. On another note I am sure I saw on oddschecker last week that Sess is 12/1 to be Sunderland's top scorer this season with Gyan favourite, and Wickham and Gardner both ahead of Sess. Now I think Gyan will top score but am certain Sess will be best of the rest. I suppose its 12/1 Gyan having a poor year or picking up an injury. Also throwing the ACN into the mix its surely worth a tenner.
Because they're both young 'star' English players with a lot of potential to improve, and Liverpool were the mugs who were prepared to pay so much for British talent. Good luck finding any other big team in the EPL who would have paid anywhere near that for them. They didn't go for so much because there was a bidding war. They just went for so much because our teams wanted to cling into them so much. To give Sessegnon a value which would insinuate that he's as good as Cesc Fabregas, Wesley Sneijder, Luka Modric and the other players who make up the best midfielders on the entire planet is frankly ****ing stupid. Really, it just looks daft and ridiculously delusional, so don't even bother. PS: I actually forgot for a second there that he's 27. That just adds even more ridiculousness to the whole idea. Who's dismissing him? He's a good player and I'd happily take him in our team. One of the best in a mid-table side. However, he isn't as super duper incredible as some mackems seem to think. And many of you are doing it again with a lot of our new signings, i.e. Cabaye.
he is 27, and will still be in his prime in one or two seasons. If Man City make a bid for him, then 30m could be possible. some of the stuff he was doing in pre-season (skills) were spectacular and if he can do the same this season then he could attract interest from one of the big spenders. what figures a laughable? the potential pricetag, or the potential for him to score 15+ goals? 3 seasons ago i would have said 30 million no way, but the way the transfer market is at the moment..... (we spent 8 million on a unproved forward, Arsenal spent more than 12m on a 17 year old, carrol went for 30+, Torrez for 50, etc etc) Please note I said he COULD be worth that much, not that he is worth that much at the moment. All depends on what he does this season. by the way, i beleive Arsenal are selling Fabregas for cheap. I wouldnt have let him go for less than 45/50m - but Fabregas is forcing the sale.
Wickham - One of the biggest young prospects in England Chamberlain - One of the biggest young prospects in England Carroll - One of the biggest young prospects in England Torres - One of the best strikers in the world on form But hey, similar to Sessegnon, Steven Taylor also scored 3 in 3 towards the end of last season, AND he's English. What sort of figure should we slap on him? £40mill? Really, everything you've said is hands down one of the most delusional things I've heard in years. Even us mags don't think Ben Arfa could go for anywhere near £30mill. Wake up.
COULD BE, COULD BE and COULD BE and the things you are not reading in my post. If taylor continues scoring a goal a game (or even 1 in 2) then why the **** wouldnt you be slapping a huge price tag on him? a defender who can score 12+ goals would be worth a ****ing fortune. (as long as he can defend as well of course). if we sold Sess tomorrow, we would not get 30m for him.
It's a stupid and pointless argument then. We may as well all just say that Newcastle's and Sunderland's starting 11's COULD all suddenly become awesome and have £30million price tags. I'm trying to be realistic here. For all the coulds and could nots, in the real world, Sessegnon is highly, HIGHLY unlikely to ever warrant a £30mill fee. Much in the same way that Taylor is highly, HIGHLY unlikely to keep up his goal scoring form towards the end of last season. The delusion of the idea is really a bad look.
Can't believe I'm reading this from a mag. The amount of stuff we've heard about Ben Arfa being insanely good based on his 3 game cameo is ridiculous! At least we watched Sess settle in and come good at the end of the season. What actually did Ben Arfa do to gain this hero status already? Score a screamer? look lively?
He signed for a club way beneath his standard in the hope of using them as a stepping stone to the big 4. De Jong put a spanner in the works (not condoning De Jong, but hand on heart Mags, this is why he came to England.)
I think he will have a good season, maybe reaching ten goals and maybe 6 assists but I also laugh at the £30 million figures being quoted, just shows how mad football has become! Thing with our clubs though is remove the Sessegnon/Ben Arfa and we are ****ed, whereas the top teams have a guy of similar ability ready to step in.
Yeah, and where are we saying that he's a £30mill player? Like Sessegnon, he's one of the best players in our side, but he isn't worth a fee which puts him on par with Cesc Fabregas, and is highly unlikely to ever be. He settled in immediately and he was a superb player in the squad during the matches he played. A real driving force. If a foreign player comes in and literally starts playing superbly from the very first game, and through all four subsequent games until his injury, then you can be confident that he's going to be something special. Hooray for being realistic
