    That's done a whoosh on me, I'm afraid. :)

Can I just say that the rule must be really badly written if everyone has different views on it and can't accept a 'How To' website's explanation and illustration, which I thought was pretty clear, tbh.

This is honestly the most boring conversation I've ever read on not606.

Three pages about throw-ins FFS. Who cares! Gabbiadini is banging them in

If the rule is meant as it is written and you can have part of your foot on the pitch, you'd have to be careful when you lifted your foot up as you throw the ball....you could easily find yourself with no part of your foot on the line or behind it.

You have to have both feet on the ground wherever they are!

But tippy toes on the field of play with no part touching the line or behind it is a no-no. Why don't the rules mention tippy toes.<doh>

I have tried not to get involved with this discussion and have been watching it as to the various views. Many years ago I had the same discussion.
On this occasion it was decided the rule meant you could touch the line from outside the ground of play, but no part can be in the field of play.
As far as I know that has not changed.
Another thing has to be considered..........you are not allowed to handle the ball as an outfield player. If you were allowed to have your heel on the line, with the larger part in the field of play. At the point you release the ball most likely you would be releasing it in the active field of play, so it then would be hand ball.
Unless of course you were leaning backwards........?....

Nope, next week's discussion is indirect free kicks. All very interesting, perhaps we could persuade Osvaldorama to join in.

I mean if it just said a throw in must be taken with part on your foot on the line then any time a throw was taken with no part of your foot on the line it would be disallowed. So if you took a throw from behind the line with no part on the line it would still be as much a foul as if your whole foot was on the pitch! Purely a literal interpretation of the rules.

IMO the rule is well written assuming you can have 99% of a foot on the pitch. I think the problem is that this is not what most people thought the rule was. If everyone thought this was the way the rule was meant to be we wouldn't be having this discussion

Corner kicks.! Why are they outside the D when we were always taught that they had to be inside the D.? Kids coaches playing safe again.?

I always struggled to take corners, some idiot keeps putting a flag post in the way and some other idiot with a flag keeps getting in the way.

I'm still not getting it. Can I just say this and leave this subject. The links I brought up updated my understanding of the rule. Strictly, I thought the feet had to be behind the line, but I accept that the feet can be on the line, but no part of the foot can be in front of the line. Here's another link which explains: http://www.wikihow.com/Do-a-Throw-in-Soccer

And here's one last illustration which [I think] is correct:

That's me out on this. [drops mic] :)

I think we all agree what we think is the rule, but the argument is about the lack of clarity in the way the rule is explained on the FA site.

Honestly, not kidding - when I was playing for my school I once took a corner and kicked the corner flag. Our flagpoles were stiff too. No bendy bits. Jeez, that hurt. Our pitch was awful and I slipped.

According to how the law is written, they are all OK. As Fran says, the law needs clarifying.

I read back at your original quote and I think I just misunderstood you and i was arguing against a point you weren't trying to make!
