I'm not trying to win a debate, Vin. If you remember I was wrong too. I looked Rule 15 and found out.

I think there may be confusion here, it isn't like the rule about no balls in cricket where part of the foot has to be on or behind the line. In football it has always been clear that if any part of the foot is in the field of play, then it is a foul throw, on the line or behind it is what it clearly indicates.

I think this discussion is getting a bit too heated...........we are just talking about a throw in after all. Can we not leave it at that after all it really doesn't matter and is not a thing to cross swords about. Come on guys let's leave it there please........

You have no idea how much this issue is distressing me. In a land far away (Sussex) long ago (1986) I was reapeatedly (and I mean 20-30 times) penalised by a ref for foul throwing. Nobody could work out why, I tried EVERY version of a throw-in you can imagine. I decided i was the spit of the bloke who ran of with his wife.

The goal was scored Sat because we were a bit slow on picking up players.

We could've had a goal disallowed as an offside player jumped over the ball.

It will be interesting how far the video reviews (trust me they're coming) go. It could spoil football.

You could argue that their last goal was off side, it doesn't matter now, might do later if we need goal difference to be a deciding factor!

Green is right though. You can just imagine some guy in a box dissecting every little decision while we wait for the game we love to be played. Its a bit scary. Can't just bring it in for Burts offsides, its all or nothing.

Really? I thought he stayed onside very cleverly. He came from behind a defender to follow Sofiane's shot and the ball was then played to him off the keeper. That's how I saw it. Nathan was clearly offside when Dusan scored, on the other hand, and we were lucky to get away with it.

Yeah, I had my reservations about that too. But some pundit pointed out that he actually made an effort to get out of the way and did not interfere with Gomes.

Tadic & Redmond seem to have responded very well. Amazing how much difference one player can make.
    Les has earned his corn.......again

To be fair, I'm just playing devils advocate <laugh>... (and to see if people will be honest when it's in our favour ;) )

But on motd when they freezed it, his whole body was level but because he was leaning towards goal his head was ahead of the (second to) last player (including gk).

And as the law is 'any part of the body the ball can be played with', then by the law, he was technically offside <ok>

Discounting all of the above though... the benefit of the doubt always goes to the attacker

Also, I don't give a **** really... as Vin said on another thread, players should just man up and accept that some decisions will be wrong due to the nature of the game and human error... :bandit:

If we are to just man up, may I suggest to the football gods that they share Manchester Uniteds luck around between the other 19 clubs.
    Thanks in advance.

Saw a stat the other day...

*cant remember exact numbers so is a bit of a guess:

United have scored 7 goals this year in all competetitions that was later seen to have been offside, and also have had around 8 goals against disallowed against them, for offside which were later found to be on...

*again, I can't remember exact numbers, but each one was within 1 or 2 of what I've said... also I didn't check the accuracy of this when I saw it so take with a pinch of salt.

    Wouldn't suprise me though...
