It's quite interesting to compare vietnam and cuba with syria and ukraine. Ukraine : - US and EU sell Ukrainians a dream of EU membership, then inspires a violent coup against the government, in order to move troops to a land border with Russia. Russia then effectively anexxes a very small part of the areas of the country where the population's allegiance remains with Russia. The EU abandons Ukraine, leaving it isolated and broke. Western verdict : Russia's the bad guy. Cuba : - Communists otherthrow the government in a coup. The US tries to invade the whole country, and then spends 50 years subjecting its citizens to economic isolation. Western verdict : Russia's the bad guy. Syria : - The US and (most of) the EU supports the armed otherthrow of the government. This leads to hundrds of thousands of deaths and the destruction of much of the country, as jihadist factions, including al qiada supported by US allies, seek to gain control. Russia intervenes to restore control and peace to the country, en route bombing hospitals and schools that are being used by the Jihadists as military bases. Western verdict : Russia has committed war crimes Vietnam : - The US decided it doesnt like Asia becoming communist, so it sends troops in to support a puppet government in the south. It wages a war against half of the 'country' for 20 years, in which it carpet bombs every urban area and every village innthe other half of the country, and systematicallt uses chemical weapons in residential areas, before giving up and leaving the half of the country it has encouraged to wage war against the other half, to their mercy. Verdict : Communism the bad guy. Just a couple of examples, but one could go on.
If i organise for someone to steal your manbag, and you come up to me and take back one of the house keys that was in the bag and that id left lieing around, and someone then turns to you and say that youve stolen the key, and you say, "he stole it from me in the first place; took my whole manbag, and he's still got it", what would you think if the person said to you, "Irrelevant !!! What part of stealing is it you don't understand" ? <erm>
By the way, i also note the hypocrisy of a nation saying another narion has committed an act of war against it by hacking some of its computers, when that nation itself has been caught red handed on numerous occasions hacking other countries, including its own allies, for example when the US hacked the telephone of angela merkel ! The US plays the intelligence game probably more than all the other countries put togethor, and it's still got the cheek to complain when its intelligence service gets bettered by that of another country ! The hypocrisy and double standards of the US knows no bounds.
Again, an irrelevant diversion. The simple facts are that The Crimea was legally part of The Ukraine. Putin's Russia completely illegally, and against all international conventions and laws, miitarily invaded and annexed it. That's an act of war, nothing less. You can attempt to dress it up any at you like, those are the plain simple facts. His 'logic' is the same one Hitler used in invading The Sudetenland.
Your over simplification of the situation is soporific and obtuse to the point of rendering your comments completely vaccuous. The trouble is Nowsuffering, that your total lack of objectivity and impartiality, and your complete lack of interest in what the actual truth is, blinds you to reality. The whole situation in ukraine has arisen due to the american decision to interfere in a country allied to a nation it regards as an enemy, so it could post troops on that country's border. Do you think america would just sit back and watch if russia posted troops along the canada/us border ? Would it heck. It nearly started a nuclear war because an island hundreds of miles away from its shores turned communist. Russia's actions are completely understanable not only for its own self defence, but for protection of its own people in those parte of the ukraine. You clearly have no interest whatsoever in the cultural nuances involved, the security realities involved, the history of the country involved, or the wellbeing of the country and people you are discussing. Your only interest appears to be to cling on to your completely unfounded believe that america and the west do good things, and russia does bad things. It's a child like analysis to be blunt. Ukraine is just a typical example of the model that repeats time and time again : 1. The cia dreams up some geo political plan to destabilise nations it regards as the enemy. 2. The US and its allies destabilises a sovereign country that the CIA has identified as being allied to that rival nation, leaving the country in ruin. 3. They walk away with the country devastated 4. They blame the situation on russian aggresion
Once again!... Putin ILLEGALLY militarily invaded and annexed a part of another sovereign nation. That is an act of war. Dress it up any way you want, it was an illegal act of aggression because Putin wanted the the vital port of Sebastopol. So, he invaded and took it, calculating that although there would be a backlash, he could avoid military conflict with the west.
while being immigrants themselves. All I ask for is a little honesty. Either continue to recognize the US is successful because it's been able to draw the most ambitious and hardest working people from the rest of the world, and that 99% of its people are immigrants, or send the Statue of Liberty to Canada, where Justin Trudeau is proud of having welcomed 300,000 refugees to Canada last year, and says he prefers the phrase "New Canadians" to "immigrants."
I don't pay too much attention to Canadian politics, but the little I've seen of Trudeau has impressed me. He seems to hit the right note with the media, at least, though it says nothing about his policies. He comes across as extremely Canadian, which I definitely mean as a compliment. I hope for their sake that he can back up his image with substance.
His popularity is waning somewhat in the polls although that's pretty much to be expected 15 months into a parliament and he has a couple of 'ethics' issues hanging over him, but he still appeals to most Canadians. (I get fairly regular updates from family in Ontario) But judging by the vitriolic attacks he is getting in some US media and on social media from Trump supporters on a daily basis, he must be doing something right!!
News just in: Trump accuses Obama of wiretapping him..... - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-39167110 Pure coincidence that this 'outrage' is tweeted by His Dumpfness in the week that his administration starts to unravel - and some weeks after it was already publicly acknowledged that there were investigations last autumn into the Republican candidates links to Russia..... Surely just coincidence????
It's called sarcasm. Not great sarcasm I'll happily admit, but sarcasm none the less. Not surprised you didn't spot it. (And that not sarcasm, by the way)
Ben Carson doing his bit for civil right by equating slavery with immigration. Because there's so many direct comparisons between people being willing to move to another country to build a new life for themselves and people being kidnapped and forced to work for nothing!
And if we wanted reminding how and why Dumpf got into the White House and is somehow surviving....... Trump fans Diamond and Silk: 'My president never says anything that's stupid' http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-39186644
The latest backwards logic from Trumpists: feminists are hypocrites for not supporting KellyAnne Conway Yes, that's how feminism works, blindly supporting someone based on having one chromosome over another, even though they are clearly utterly incapable of doing their job despite their obvious lack of competence or ability to separate fact from whatever Trump says...
