"Wenger: "I expect nobody to leave the club. At the moment there is no news. What we want today is to focus on the players who can help."

"My personal feelings are not important, what is important is the club. I have not been disappointed by Cesc or Samir's attitude, they have been professional."

So looks like everyone is jumping on the cesc and Nasri hate bandwagon a little quickly from Wengers words.

Then a couple of other interesting bits:

"Wenger: "Manchester United sold Ronaldo. Does that mean they are not a big club?"

0935: FOOTBALL - Daily Mirror writer Darren Lewis on Twitter: "Cesc is not on strike. He is not match fit. I do not want to go into anything else."

    Thoughts??

(I'll keep posting any interesting updates lol)

  2. Amazing..... although of course what else would we expect him to say before matters are finalised.

I just hope we get the right people in and not cut-price no hopers.

he looks to be so lost and desperate - even the Board have told him 'sell Nasri - £22m is fair'.

You have literally no evidence of the board telling him that - you are getting your info from a rubbish article.

How could any journalists possibly know what the board and Wenger have discussed in private?

Look at Arsene's quotes before today, then tell me how the BBC can conclude with certainty that both will leave (as they seem to have done).
Listen to Wenger's comments at the press conference, that is the only actual quotes we all have from the last few days.

Everything else is speculation, so while they could leave, it is also possible they could stay. Until it happens (or not), people would probably be best to reserve judgement.

Arsene's comments about why they are both out for tomorrow could well be true. if Cesc was injured for the opre-season Asian tour, it stands to reason he wouldn't be match fit now. nasri was subbed on 66mins for France, so he may well have been ill as Arsene said.

1321: FOOTBALL - Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas is set to finalise his move to Barcelona, according to reports in the country.

No quotes or any source given - so no idea if this is just the BBC talking nonsense.

Proof that Wenger's gone completely bonkers.

Unless, of course, BOTH deals were done behind his back. Gazidis did the Fabregas one, so maybe Nasri was done by Kroenke or something, and he's pissed because he didn't get the final say...

  14. What currently bothers me more is that when asked about defenders, Arsene said "We currently have four central defenders, and thus we do not need any more,"

Earlier in the transfer window he had given assurances that the club would find one more defender. All I can hope is that Arsene is trying to divert attention from transfers he and Mr Gazidis are working on. A sort of Do Not Disturb sign if you like.

That at least is what I'm hoping. Anything else I would rather not think of, especially as I'm still supposedly on my Happy as Larry kick. ;)

Wenger is being made to look foolish by the latest events.

Barca are close to announcing the deal yet Wenger is acting like some kind of King Canute saying Cesc is not leaving. The man has no credibility left and should resign, give Ancelotti a go, he knows how to win things.

  16. Well I wouldn't disagree that he has led Chelsea to trophies but I have an abiding memory of our home match last October, was it when he looked quite unable to change the fortunes of his team, gesticulating aimlessly, his hands in his blue team gloves. I appreciate it's only one game of course and they did overtake us in the EPL. Would he be given the budget he requires to achieve anything though? Mr Gazidis holds onto those purse strings even more tightly than Carlo did his blue gloves.

I say, sack the board and bring back David Dein. He will almost certainly retain Arsene but at least he'll be laying down the groundwork.

The whole point to the Canute story wasn't that he thought he was so powerful that he could turn back the tide but that he was showing his people that there were things he wasn't capable of. I doubt Wenger had this in mind when he was answering the questions anyway.

Christ, why is everyone sacking Wenger on the back of him cashing in on players who wanted to leave? Do you think Ancelotti would have kept them on board? At least wait until the end of the transfer window before calling for his head. He might have won every game by then.

It's also better if you have your own opinion rather than being a Sun-following sheep. I'm not in denial, I'm just asking how they can be so sure when they're just going by what Guillem Balague says. He was wrong the last three years, so why not now?

Boffo, have you asked yourself why they want to leave, could it be they don't see themselves winning anything if they stay at Arsenal?

He might win every game in August but based on the pre-season the odds are stacked against him. Wengers reluctance to spend money he already has is going to be his undoing and i can't see him buying anyone good enough.

    From Sky:

a spokesperson for the European champions announced on Friday lunchtime that the transfer of the Arsenal captain, which is worth a speculated £35million, could finally be completed 'within hours'.

Fabregas was therefore set to fly to Spain this afternoon in order to put the finish touches to his return to his boyhood club before attending Sunday's Super Cup between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
But Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola has told the midfielder, who is expected to sign a five-year contract and is viewed as a long-term successor to Xavi, to cancel the flight in order to avoid upsetting Arsenal.

Now, it was announced at about 1pm today. 'Within hours'..well that's gone now. Also Fab was meant to be flying to Spain. Now suddenly he's not, 'to avoid upsetting Arsenal'. Why would that matter if it's a done deal?
I'm telling you, the biggest lies on these boards are "Sky Sports/BBC Sport understands/has learned' - it's basically another way of saying 'we have no idea'.
