Yeh he was the guy you could love to hate at times but a genius behind the wheel. I hope we see him well enough to do an interview at some point but I can't see it really

 

It is a bit ironic that someone who was so successful in what is still a relatively dangerous sport, although not as dangerous as it used to be, should suffer such a terrible injury whilst skiing. Apparently he was an excellent skier as well, just unfortunate the way he landed after falling.

 

Indeed. One of my child hood heroes was Rik mayall. He sadly died from an injury he had 1-2 yrs previous from using those 4x4 buggy things.

Just shows that you never know what hand you will be dealt.

We had an entertainment evening at work a few years ago were we took some clients racing on quad bikes and a Honda pilot. It was near Mold, North Wales. We got there and it was just a track marked out in a field and we had to wait whilst they hosed the quads down, as they had been using them on the farm all day. I was terrified we were going to have a guest injured as there was a table of free booze as well. The only safety kit was a bike helmet.

I called a halt to it after about an hour and a half as some of the younger guests were getting a bit reckless on them. One actually tipped one backwards, but luckily she fell away from it so it did not land on her.

Quads are very dangerous in the wrong hands especially if you are accelerating up a gradient, it is very easy to tip them backwards. I think legally you do not need to wear a bike helmet when riding them, but you would be mad not to.
