I spent three years as a visits officer with the DWP visiting places such as Wester Hailes, Niddrie and Oxgangs so I'll be happy to take you up on that challenge.
so having a house you otherwise wouldn't be able to afford to live in is not having a privelaged position?
Kept in touch with a lot of them have you? Still go for the odd can of purple top or bit of gear? If so, you're a better man than me. I can't believe you actually used to be forced into regular contact with these people and yet still have some sympathy. Or maybe your average Embra schemie is a bit friendlier than our Salford/Manc scallies.
Mate, I went to houses where I had to go home and shower afterwards. I was offered everything from blow to crack. I've been in houses where the dirt and smell was so bad it was all I could do to not throw up. But they were in the minority. The majority of people were decent, hard working souls who had fallen on hard times. It just pisses me off listening to the holier-than-thou ****s on here sounding off when I've read stuff from them in the past about how they've battered so-and-so or about how they used to rob their local newsagent etc. In a couple of weeks the riots will be forgotten and GC will again be awash with stories from people talking about the drugs they take or the fight they got into at the weekend. Bunch of ****ing hypocrites.
but having a house to live in is a privileged position compared to those who dont, regardless of the motivation behind the political decision to award cheap housing.
And then you've got this pain in the arse. Mister "I was brought up on a farm and used to drive over badgers in a Ranger Rover for fun" giving it some ****e about social housing and priveliges.
EDGE "What a total fanny" Another Oscar Wilde moment from Glasgow's answer to Arthur Daley No doubt your reinforcements will be along in a minute to back you up.
the most disgusting house i have ever been in was owned by 2 doctors. I went home and washed and changed on my way back to the office. living like a pig transcends social classes. There is a very real problem however with an underclass of society, the people who i am speaking out against are not working class, to be working class you need to work or want to work. there is an entirely separate class of people who feel that the country owes them everything and do not want to contribute to society. in any other country in the world these people would not have a house to stay in and there fore a council house to these people is a privilege they would not be afforded anywhere else.
Aside from the already well established inbread town of Swindon, the way forward is to create shanty towns for this underclass
