Daffs are my favourite....buy them every week whilst in season. Not sure about cawl....isn't that a membrane that covers a newborn....sometimes after birth and protects sailors from drowning. As you were...that's a caul. Phew!

To be fair ... Hull?! In truth, I often describe the Liverpool I moved to in the early 70's as a being like Pompey. It was a place you always opened pub doors carefully in case there was a fight, and bouncers issued you with a knife if you'd been foolish enough to arrive without one. Since the culture investment Liverpool has been transformed. When we played at Anfield in some cup or another the other week, a mate who had never been there before was shocked to find people eating in restaurants and not out of bins. Maybe it could have a similar effect on Pompey. No you're right. A step too far.
I think Hull's main problem is its name....the image conjured up by the name does not reflect the place. Should have stuck to its full name....Kingston-Upon-Hull. Most modern cities have upped their game....even Pompey is alright if you never leave the old town and Gunwharf Quays.
Regeneration is ongoing in Southampton too. I've always liked Southampton, but I'm biased having been brought up here. Everyone I know that has moved here for work says they hate it and it's horrible. Who knew. I think the West Quay Watermark extension is nice because it covers what was just wasteland and incoorporates the old wall which was just hidden away. I've been to a few of the many restaurants there already, and because of the fancy new cinema it's scared Odeon in Leisure World into lowering their prices. I went to see Logan last night at Odeon for £6. Bargain! Though I think the eventual plan is to knock Leisure World down and build a big new venue and conference centre. There are also plans to regenerate the waterfront at Mayflower park and make it accesible from West Quay.
After a meal at the West Quay extension, I walked back to the ferry alongside part of the old wall. Discovered some interesting buildings I never knew were there. Has opened up a bit of the city that has character....definitely a good thing.
