I've not watched a huge amount of Formula E but what I have seen has been on new circuits, which seem quite narrow and thus cameras are closer to the cars and track, giving you a good impression of the speeds.

At the more traditional circuits, the circuits are generally wide and open, cameras are further from the track, and also the cameras are placed in set positions which don't change, which is why from year to year you see the same views of those tracks. Directors can change which camera feed is shown at any time, and thus which cars and which battles are shown but can't dictate where the cameras are located as far as I know.

I bet the cornering speeds are through the roof... that's what we all want to see.

interesting top down shot of ferrari. quite a lot going on before the barge boards and they've quite a bit of detail on the top of the side pods too. shot just missed the rear sections of the floor where mercedes have 7 slots each side.

I thin kthe main formula e issue is them changing bloody cars which kind of completely shows the issues with battery technology.

Sauber setting some good times, but wary that they may be doing ultra light runs to try and drum up some sponsorship?

Very much so. I think in years to come when the technology matures people will look back on the days when they had to switch cars mid race and laugh. It will seem as archaic as men walking in front of cars holding flags.

But the tech will catch up. What we need is hydrogen fuel cell cars.

Quite sad that Alonso & McHonda saying that just doing aero runs this morning so no proper timed laps! Do they really expect us to believe that they are choosing to do aero runs not timed laps? OK so they want to validate their models but they need to get some laps in to find any other issues.
    Not looking good for them.

yeah, I think they are feeling the pressure big time and are saying they've dialled the engine back to 0.5/10 to try limp round to get some sort of aero data.

Its the same old thing i've seen for the past 25 years in industry. the person who invents a battery that can actually last and not heat up like mad will be worlds richest person.

every usage of batteries globally from laptops to phones to cars has the same issue.

given ferrari are quite happy on mediums and there's about a second between mediums and softs the earlier time of 1:20.1 by bottas v 1:21.6 seems more interesting.

I just would wonder about the eventual gap even now of 0.5 to 0.8 seconds as my prediction.

Bottas on quali runs, not bone dry but 6 Lap runs and on the ultra. Ricc into 2nd on the softs but Ferrari yet to follow suit. Vettel's medium tyre run looking respectable with 3 compounds to go, but who knows?

Teams that are doing slow lap 'areo testing' generally means they have issues with their cars and its doing stuff the figures at the factory didn't show.

A good car will be quick straight out of the box i.e. Merc and Ferrari it seems, so they can do a few normal laps and then go straight into dialling the cars in for race and quali simulations. The cars have sensors all over them which record data, so if a team constantly has to strop on the large antenna's to collect extra data then it doesn't look great for them.

Would suggest McLaren may have the same issue as the last two years with both the car and the engine.

Anyone know if there are any test rigs that the teams can use to apply lateral G force? I can see them testing whole chassis on dynamic dynos. So they know heat issues and in have an idea of braking systems. I wonder if some of the teams have a way to test lateral forces to replicate going round a fast corner with all the sideways forces that that would produce? Seems like McHonda keep getting it so wrong.

Renault posted a very good time there. Low 1:21 on softs on a longish run- if their engine is reliable they look half decent.

Red Bull look a huge threat IMO- they have only been scratching the surface with a basic aero package and we saw first glimpse of pace today from Ricciardo.

Watch out for them in Melbourne.
