Don't mean to piss on your stats but half of the people registered here haven't even posted once.

    http://www.not606.com/memberlist.php?&pp=30&order=asc&sort=posts

And you're on page 390 of 430 before you even get to people with more than 100 posts.

I wasn't around when the original site was set up, or when it first became Not 606. When the announcement was made to shut down 606 I looked around and concluded that this was potentially the best site and joined, along with Rocky. All the Wycombe fans from 606 moved over soon after. I had great difficulty in moving anyone from the 606 horse racing forum, some being very ante because of what they found on here and on the horse racing forum, and they went to other sites. However, since the cleaning up and moderation of the horse racing forum word got round and we now have just about all of the old 606ers converted.

I can understand why the original members are up in arms but I think we have to accept that the objectives of the site have changed. Originally it was to escape from the over moderated BBC 606 and those who joined did enjoy a complete free for all. When the BBC announcement was made, Mick saw the opportunity to become the BBC replacement with a very large membership.

However, whilst this site is far superior to the BBC, there was a stumbling block to this aim. Although many people felt that the BBC was inconsistently and over moderated, this site was seen as being too far the other way and drove many potential new members to other sites that had aspirations of being the "new" BBC 606.

The appointment of moderators has definitely removed that problem to a large extent and the removal of Tags and Reps will probably remove it altogether. Unfortunately these features were used to good effect by some members but their over abuse has led to many complaints and was a potential danger to the further expansion of the site.

The site is still nowhere near as tightly moderated as the BBC site and is far superior; the path has now been cleared for further expansion.

ALL THE ABOVE IS PURELY MY PERSONAL OPINION

Rep was a bit of a laugh but also, judging by some that i received, a nice excuse for people to be extremely offensive annonymously. I think it's a shame it's gone really as it made me feel important <wah>

I'll miss the Shameless rep comments.

Some of them were wonderful works of prose; albeit of a very disturbing nature.

It does beg the question "Why would anyone want to post disgusting things anonymously?"

Don't understand it personally but there you go; I'm just an old fart. I only try to look at it objectively from the point of view of gaining a bigger audience. Maybe Mick should have kept the old "mod free" site going and left it alone for those who revelled in it and launched a new site for the masses. People would be free to visit either but those who preferred a respectable level of moderation could enjoy the new site without being exposed to the goings on in the other site.

    SOLVED?

Fair point Skalpel. If I could list all the members continuously, rather than a page at a time, I could have analysed it by number of posts. But there is no way I can do that a page at a time. <ok>

There was nothing wrong with the tags. They should have stayed. I'm unsure if everybody understood the rep thing.

Never understood the stupid rep thing but seemed childish. The tags were also childish. Having said that the rep and tags were usually more interesting the the posts themselves.

Rep : Fair enough. Most people didn't use it, and the few that did used it as an excuse for sending abusive messages. And these messages bypassed the 'no swearing' option that a lot of people selected and posted this abuse on your profile with no opportinuty to remove it. So I'm glad that Rep has gone.

Actually, I'm OK with tags going as well - becauuse nobody was using them for the right reason - as a search aid. They were being used as an underground profanity network, and anybody could attach them to your posts and there was no comeback whatsoever.

Before I get accused, I'm no prude, but I just don't see why, if people want to come here and talk about football without being abused or having to read comments laced with swearing, they can't have the freedom to do so.
