It still takes more than a name to stay in F1.

Lots of sons/nephews/cousins/brothers of decent F1 drivers somehow got into F1 riding on the back of the family name, but once they were sussed at the highest level they didn't stick around for long.

Whole problem with motor racing is you need to have a wealthy family or backer behind you to get you on the ladder in the first place.

With the family name though comes the pressure to perform. Can you imagine what the spotlight will be like on Mick jnr if he gets to F1?

totally agree. you can get the backing to sit in a lot of good cars and have a latent level of talent but that only lasts so long.

I do agree you need a lot of wealth to get int okarts never mind anything else really so unlike football its not exactly egalitarian but then it never made itself out to be.

I'd also agree like bruno senna the day Mick jr takes his place (and he will) the expectation will be massive.

Mick raced under a pseudonym in karts, which was pretty pointless when Michael was at track. I've never been a fan of Michael in F1 terms, but at a kart track he was a normal every day father. Inspirational on one hand and every day on another.
