True but the current Man utd team is far more formidable than the one in 1976. We have also evolved , of course, but I think, man for man, they are head and shoulders about us and probably going to end up pushing Arsenal and Spurs quite hard for 2nd spot. A win tomorrow would be a massive achievement for Saints given the absence of so many first teamers. The central defensive partnership does worry me tomorrow. Had VVD being playing I think we would be worthy oppositions for the Mancs.

I saw that...was worried for him, but then thought to myself in a Spanish accent akin to the late great Manuel "no Mata"...

...I'll get my coat (ensuring my cup final ticket is there)

    Oh do **** off, Timmy.

You're so boringly, tediously, predictably negative. You NEVER have anything positive to say. Still, at least this time you're getting it out of your system before the game just to guarantee to piss people off. Imagine if we won, you would have missed a chance to get a moan in over the game.

    Utterly pitiful.

Boarding pass printed for tomorrow mornings flight. I feel like a 5-year old on Xmas Eve. Meet AberdeenSaint Jnr off the Newcastle train at 11:00, then off for a few bevvies. All I`ve heard this week is how great Ibra is, how much Rooney is going to get per week in China, how good ManU were in Europe, what the chosen one thinks about Leicester etc etc - hardly a peep about Saints. Little old Saints will just make the numbers up, and roll over.
I don`t think so - we can do this !

That's the best way for me. Love it that we've hardly been spoken about. Will make it all the sweeter when we do them.

Haven't posted for ages but , nine the less, I have posted favourably and been positive when the results have merited it. My comments in this thread are not negative but just stating that we are up against the form team of the moment, playing against a manager who has the best win ratio in League Cup finals and have never lost a final for a team he has managed. It will be an extremely difficult challenge and , if we win, far , far more impressive than beating Liverpool.
I didn't expect Saints to get anything out of Liverpool away and they did, Replicate this performance and we have a chance. Had we encountered Man Utd earlier in the season, I think we would have gone in to the game quite fancied. The problem is that Man Utd have seemed to turned the corner but I am hoping that the injuries will factor in for them as well. Other than Chelsea, I feel that Man Utd are the "in form" team at the moment.

I feel a lot better about having Careres in the line up and Gabbiadini up front is the one player that the side has been crying out for all season. The recent performances have shown a marked improvement. For me, I want to go up to Wembley as see the team put in a good account of themselves.

Let's do this!! Come on you reds! On my way to London, crashing at a mates for Wembley-eve beers before getting some pre-Wembley beers tomorrow morning, shortly before WEMBLEY BEERS!

Then we get to watch a Manolo hat-trick topped off with a Yoshida bicycle kick. Come on you reds!

We've played many a team that were considered head and shoulders above us, and got the right result.
As Nigel Adkins would say "Hard work will beat talent if talent doesn't work hard".
I saw comments from Herrera(?) earlier, and my first thought was that he/they are over confident and my thoughts immediately went back to Gordon Hill in 1976.
For me, we need to keep a clean sheet for as long as possible, because an early goal against could be very damaging, especially if we haven't settled into the game.

    Gabbiadini is going to score.

I've had Peroni tonight. I've had Chianti (currently drinking it ;) ). I made a lovely pork dish with tomato and basil potatoes and a pesto sauce..all topped off with Parmesan. I've done my bit. Come on Manolo!!!

These comments are true. I was 9 when Saints won the cup in 1976 and I can recall a bit about the confidence of Man Utd. From recollection, you are right that Gordon Hill did boast before the final. I will interested to see how fatigued Man Utd are but my worry is that Wayne Rooney seems to have been in the news all week and you can imagine that he could materialise like a bogey man tomorrow.

I have just been reading an article about Mourinho's record in cup finals and I suppose that he is well overdue a defeat at Wembley. In 1976 Man Utd were at the point of having a reputation as a cup team but were perceived to have been underperforming. There is a sense that Mourinho has turned their current fortunes around after two disastrous but amusing appointments. My worst fear would be a performance like Aston Villa's in the FA cup several seasons ago which was a complete waste of time. From my perspective, I feel that Saints have been erratic this season and not always great entertainment value. Personally, I think that they owe the supporters a big performance and a replication of the matches against Liverpool would be perfect.

The Cardiff final was ultimately deflating as there was a sense that Saints had a good chance. It was a poor match to watch and Arsenal snuck the result, the goal deflating Saints. I hope that we see something more akin to the JPT final which may be seen as a small scale competition, but which was a brilliant team performance on the day. When we played in the League Cup final in 1979 it was a brilliant match although the only thing I can remember much about is one of the Forest goals, the Nottingham Forest fans outside the stadium and a cross being fired across the goal line but not being converted by the opposition. I don't think we played well that day. In short, when we have played well, we have won.

I made aubergine parmigiano (aubergines, tomato sauce with basil & oregano, parmesan in layers topped off with mozzarella and baked in the oven).Think that'll help?
