Right. I've finished work until next Thursday (yay!), I'm 99% packed, all tickets are safe (and I know where they are but will check again before I leave tomorrow :)), my new Saints scarf arrived and I'm surprisingly very calm. I've packed extra tissues for the joyful tears every time we score, when the final whistle goes and when the captain (whoever it may be) raises the trophy high to the strains of OWtS ringing around the stadium.

I'm so calm that I'll probably miss my train tomorrow... ;)

Hi Red. Good to have you back as a visitor. I've never had so many "good lucks" from Liverpool fans as this week. I was talking to the mechanic at my local garage (we talk cars for 5 nano seconds and football for about 15 minutes whenever I go in) and mentioned I hoped Gabby scores the winner on Sunday. "I don't care who scores your winner, mate. Just ****ing win!" says he. Is this just because we are playing your fiercest rival? Some Reds say yes to this, but all say that its really because we beat your lot fairly and don't want it to be seen as a fluke. I do love scousers. Shame about your team!

You've got a new scarf???? What???? It's untested, woman!!

I'm wearing the same clothes - down to underpants, mind - as I wore to the Emirates and the two Liverpool games. I've washed everything together as I always do after a win (no non-match day clothes are allowed). Not only will I have the same scarf it will be tied in the same way.

If we lose, I'll be trawling the valleys to burn that scarf. You have been warned! Not to mention that you will be a pariah. New scarf! Humbug.

I'm at that stage in my life where I generally have hopes, but no expectations, of the Saints.
That's not me being negative or pessimistic, that's me having long reached that "Que sera sera" stage in supporting Saints, and my way of reducing the despair, when we lose games.
    Boring, I know.

Although it's very difficult to keep a lid on it, for this game. <party>

Not boring at all. It's the only way to live with this particular obsession! I love them win or lose. Provided they drag themselves off the pitch having given 100% I'll be happy. All I want is passion from my team. Well the missus has fallen asleep in front of the telly, so it's easy to get desperate!

It's OK, I've given it a talking to and a cuddle and as he (yes, it's a he) pointed out, he won't be the only new piece of kit both in the stands and on the pitch so it might be you with your old underpants who could be the jinx :p

The cheek of the woman. These are the underpants I wore when we won promotion in 1966! Never let me down, so to speak.

I can honestly say, I have not been this excited since Xmas eve 1975, when I knew I was getting an Action Man with eagle eyes for Xmas :). And the tank. And the parachute.

I keep telling myself I will enjoy the day regardless of the result.

    But it's not really true.

Sounds kinda perverse but if the worst is to happen, then in a weird way I don't want it to be too close.

If their big players turn up and win comfortably then fair enough, but don't want to be thinking 'what if' for the next decade.

Sort of agree - I spent a long time after we went down in 2005 thinking 'what if we'd not let that 2-0 lead against Villa go (lost 3-2) - would we have stayed up?'

But glad now with hindsight how things worked out!

I agree. But I'm think more 'What if we had won more than 5 games that year'... ;)
