trashing your batsmen with smart bowling is lucky then? hmm.. morgan and root just cruised to the total then. we didn't even need to take much risk.
119-2 to 127 all out. 8 runs... 8 wickets... 19 balls. Colapse Spinner took 6. Series ended how it started then, England being smashed. Still no good on sub continental slow spinning pitches it seems
It was a huge target and they were really chasing the ball. it was once one went the next guy is cold swinging for a 6.
119-2 is decent set up. Was about 14 overs gone though so had to start pushing and as you say lose a couple and it's game over.
yes once the first wicket went the rest were trying for 6s after maybe seeing one ball as they had no time left. once moeen toe ended and stokes went it was just over anyway.
Cook resigned as test captain. Root will step up I assume? Probably good timing, cook can concentrate on openings and be there for cook to help out for couple years etc.
Correct decision from Cook. He has won 2 ashes which is the pinnacle for an England test captain and also won away in south Africa and in India for the first time in 27 years. However we have lost a lot under him and are miles away from the top now so it has to be time. At least it gives root some time before the next ashes. Cooks been okay as captain. Put in a good shift and has done his best with some success. Sometimes too conservative though and lacks the charisma for a top captain. Much better as an opening batsman
I think I agree I think he was not really feeling this ast tour and the team were poor for him. but in the end he's been the best captain for england just about ever? Most runs... etc etc. I think basically he's just not had the players the last two years to make up an all round test side especially i nthe batting depth regarding opening.
His record as captain is decent - but shouldn't lose sight of the fact that he was one of the best batsmen in the game.
Was? He's not retired.... he should play on for another 4-5 years (injury and form permitting) and make himself one of the best in terms of numbers.
Cook is a home town player. He likes to play o nthe cut and can score a ton easy as long as he's not facing spin. He needs more home town tests to get another 5k runs. I personally think he won't get that mush to catch tendulkar. But then again the absoulte lack of decent openers means he could easily play 5 years as england go backwards. we will see.
Its not just us who like a collapse! Check this out in the first test, second day India vs Australia: India 94/4 95/5 95/6 95/7 98/8 101/9 105 all out India's collapse of 6-7 in their worst since 1969. O'Keefe took 6-35 and picked up 5 of them for 19 runs. India trail Australia by 155 runs with Australia now going into their second innings.
