The Leicester City "spiral" watch!

Discussion in 'The Premier League' started by Hoddle is a god, Jan 17, 2016.

  1. Leicester will play without fear in the next leg - they having nothing to lose in going for it. Who knows, they may capture something of last season's endeavour and turn things round. They need only win 1-0.

  4. How much greater a tragedy, short of being relegated, can this get for Leicester?

To think their title will always be tainted with the manger getting the sack the following year. Add relegation to that and it's tainted real bad, to the point of meaningless.

Disgraceful. He won them the league, FFS.
Earned the chance to keep them up this season, even if he failed.

No such thing as a meaningless title imo.

True, possibly not the right word but it would definitely take all the gloss off it.

No room in football for sentiment, unfortunately.

They were favourites to go down and he won them the league. They're not even in the relegation zone.
At least give him the opportunity to keep them up.
I assume that they've got someone lined up and he wanted in now, but that's poor, for me.

  12. Who can they get in at this late stage to make any difference?

Unless Ranieri had lost the dressing room, this is a massive gamble for the board.

It seems to me that the only thing a new manager can do is put a rocket up the arses of all the players, and I am not sure that that is going to be a good idea.

The bottom line is he's bottom of the form league across all leagues in English football. He's been awful this season.

He's hasn't earned the right to take us down mate. We've been building this club up for the past 10 years to be in this position. There's a fine line between sentiment and stupidity.

I'm gutted that it's ended like this because he's a club legend but we've scored 1 league goal in our last 9 or so games, something needs to change drastically.

  16. How much of the blame do you place on the players' shoulders?

How is the new manager going to change that for the better, without upsetting the dressing room?

It's a massive gamble by the club.

Got to agree with this. I just couldn't see him turning it around. Sad though.

Massive blame needs to be put on the players.

  20. Here is what Leicester vice chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha had to say in the statement confirming Claudio Ranieri's departure from Leicester.
“This has been the most difficult decision we have had to make in nearly seven years since King Power took ownership of Leicester City. But we are duty-bound to put the club’s long-term interests above all sense of personal sentiment, no matter how strong that might be.

“Claudio has brought outstanding qualities to his office. His skilful management, powers of motivation and measured approach have been reflective of the rich experience we always knew he would bring to Leicester City. His warmth, charm and charisma have helped transform perceptions of the Club and develop its profile on a global scale. We will forever be grateful to him for what he has helped us to achieve."
    (BBC Football)

What isn't said in conclusion is this:-

"However, Claudio is now no longer considered to be competent enough to manage this club, so we have got rid of him in order to bring in someone else who may or may not be good enough, quickly enough, to keep up from being relegated, let alone achieve for the club what Claudio has achieved. What Claudio achieved for the club is probably going to go down in history as the club's greatest ever achievement, but we are getting rid of him to bring in a no-mark manager who will probably prove not to be fit enough to polish Claudio's shoes."

If you are going to make a press statement, at least have the decency to make an honest one.
