I'd do the decent thing and resign right now. But he wont And the owner doesn't want to lose face by making a bad appointment and making it worse by offering a contract extension ! I can't believe he hasn't been sacked this morning.
Went last time, you could not pay me enough, to go up there, and sit through that torture. A Tonking on the cards.
Anyone going to St James's Park (if its still called that) should be awarded a medal for special services to the school ! I would suggest taking a paper face mask with a downturned smile drawn on it :-(
We've lost loads, but not yet received a thorough tonking... this could be the exception. Play a super-defensive 5-4-1 and hope to nick a goal or two through counter attacks &/or set pieces. Lineup something like: Geifer Golbourne Wright Flint Magnusson Matthews Brownhill Pack Hegeler Cotterill Taylor View to bring on Tomlin and Djuric - keep one sub depending on how game goes.
This is one of those games that will end either in a tonking, as expected by most people, or will galvanise a group of players who have been under the cosh, both physically and verbally, for a few weeks now. They will be a long way away, with little travelling support and up against a team whose extremely partisan fans will be baying for blood. This could be the making of the team, each member of which will only be able to look to each other for backup. This could, in fact, be their "Rorke's Drift" moment!! Either that, or the final straw that breaks the camels back!!
'They will be a long way away, with little travelling support' Aren't we taking 2,500 up there ? Hope Newcastle think it's a forgone conclusion - It could happen (fingers/legs..) we need a result desperately.
Its become a social event more than football. Flights have been booked for months regardless of form. Ten/Eleven years ago 70 flew to Newcastle to watch City at Hartlepool, stayed in Newcastle and flew back the next day. The 70 has become hundreds and on.
Thanks to you all who are going because that's what real support is all about - well done and let's hope we can get some kind of result to ease our pain.
I drove to Hartlepool and back for that game me and my boy,we must have been mad. Rougeher scored the winner I believe.
Was going but going to see Kaiser Chiefs, and didn't realise it's the same day. Think I'm relieved now as I can't see anything but a loss. Like others I'm hoping Newcastle are expecting to roll us over and we do a Blackburn on them.
