Guilty of spunking loads of cash on a Mark Warner holiday where it is the absolute expected norm for the parents to f*ck off to the restaurant or bar letting the staff listen out on baby monitors for the kids left asleep in the hotel rooms. This practice was not solely in the resort where the kid Maddie got nabbed, it happened at all Mark Warner resorts, the sunny ones and the skiing ones too. Their holidays are extortionately expensive, the kids can run around all day and run up a tab for drinks and ice creams. From what I observed most of the parents were content to sit around the pool or in the bar while the Kids Club staff dragged their offspring away to games and clubs. The McCann's are guilty of being middle-classed holiday makers, that's about it.
They didn't have cctv a babysitter or baby monitor in the room that they left 3 very small children alone in. They didn't even secure the room by locking the window . You paint a picture of a supervised day time kids club wirh organised activities for big kids with too much energy. Not going out to dinner at 9pm drinking leaving your 3 year old unattended.
And how are they going to find their child if they let someone else try and convince people she's already dead?
Try going to a Mark Warner holiday and see for yourself although after losing a kid on their watch I'd expect they've updated their risk assessments by now. They used to get the kids club staff and child minders to sit in the corridors of the hotel to provide a "listening service" and you could have baby monitors for kids still of a cot sleeping age. If Tarquin or Jemima woke up wailing they'd radio down to the front desk who'd put out the call for the parents to drag themselves away from the Sangria and 24 hour buffet to sort them out. Not making this sh*t up by the way, seen with my very own peepers. Doesn't excuse the fact that you are expected to abandon your nippers to have a night out with the other posh twats. Not condoning what the parents did but it is entirely within normal behavior for Mark Warner holidays, at least it was at the time. Easy to be judgmental after the event. I grew up at a time when you had breakfast, fooked off out the house all day and came back in time for dinner. Could be out the house for 8 hours easily without any parental knowledge at all regarding what we were up to. The adventure playground used to be packed with kids in exactly the same position with hardly a parent in sight. Doesn't mean all our parents were negligent child abusers, just how it was back then.
