It seemed to be all agreed - and then QPR got permission to talk to him; then Ipswich were rumoured to be interested; and, finally, he seems to be Norwich bound. What went wrong - were we too slow off the mark?
I think whenever we went in for him others would have acted and if they were premiership or paying more he would have gone elsewhere. Either way I'd say we have missed out on a quality defender.
How? Swansea and Norwich have only made their move in response to us agreeing a fee they could match. If we'd moved two weeks earlier, would either of them not needed a defender? Given the circumstances, we couldn't have signed him. It's the power of the PL... That's why people want to be there. PL clubs get first dibs.
Liverpool were looking for too much money, as soon as they lowered their valuation, we put in a successful bid, but once it was common knowledge that we'd had a bid accepted, others were alerted. That was down to his agent, not us and to be fair, he was just acting in the best interest of his client. I don't think we could have done things any better, most transfer deals we've done were kept under wraps until they were concluded, I'm sure this one would have been the same if it was down to us.
That's what I felt - everything was under wraps but, as soon as it came into the open, the PL clubs moved in. Just wondered if we'd moved before McShane's injury - would it have been any different? Or was it that the PL was bound to out-class us anyway (despite DA's liking for NP)?
Maybe we should have had him all signed up before the l'pool game (or soon after), rather than wait until Mcshambles got injured.
looking on the bright side, we might get another defender who won't break up the Hobbs/Chester partnership. I know some don't like it anyway but I do so someone to come in and back the two up could be a good thing.

Hobbs is s hit e , was worse against Macclesfield than he was against Blackpool.
Time will tell how good he is, he might have had a bad couple of games. Fryatt has done so why not Hobbs?
I am so glad most of us aren't as stupid as you. After two games you are saying he is ****e, when everyone come the end of last year after a shaky first two games said he was a class act. Give him time. On topic Ayala is a class act and was always going to attract Premier League attention whenever we got a bid attracted.
city 1904 if you read all the posts on Hobbs you will note i have posted my thoughts about him ever since last season. not just abiout the two matches this season. So if anyone is stupid it is you. Read up before you make stupid remarks . I've never hear anyone say like he;s a class act.. so dont be a fukcing moron , he's had time . Gerard covered him last season and now Chester this it seems.
Chester made two absolute howlers against Blackpool , which was probably one less than Hobbs. Is he ****e as well then ? I honestly can't see how anyone can say Chester is better than Hobbs. Both young lads and both good players who will only get better .
Yes and no. We could have gone for him in pre season, but part of me suspects that whether we'd have gone for him this week or last month his agent would try and signal out our interest to try and attract Premier league clubs.
I don't get this scapegoating of Hobbs either, Several players have being guilty of underperforming in these last 2 games so it's unfair to single people out. They are both good defenders, as we saw with Chester last season and both of them in pre season. Both are still young lads who will hopefully learn from there off days and improve. Ideally, we need an experienced head alongside them in defence. Furthermore, i'm not sure about having Hobbs as captain, feel it should go to a more experienced player like Mckenna. It's being annoying these last few days to see people write players ioff as being ****e. Yes, there have being disappointing performances ina disappointing 2 games but there's countless times players such as Turner, Delaney, Ashbee etc have been written off but come back and prove themselves. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but i don't see how labling players as ****e and scapegoating people is going to help the team. Back the lads and if you are wanting to criticise players, do so constructively.
None As OLM said, as soon as Liverpool lowered their valuation we made a bid, so I don't think we could have got the deal done any earlier
I have no wish to say: 'told you so'....so I won't.....Promote Bradley to the first team squad...and lets use the £850k on a forward because I've got an awful feeling that goals are going to be like rocking horse do-dos

I also dont recall any howlers by Chester even though i sit behind the goal in south stand, must hav missed them as i did the goal, i went for a piss.
A scuffed clearance that went straight to Barry Ferguson on the edge of the box after fifteen minutes. Luckily the shot from Ferguson went straight at Gulasci. Just after the start of the second half he mistimed a challenge on the edge of the box after being caught out of position. A last ditch tackle from Brady almost certainly prevented a goal. Both mistakes could have lead to goals, that's why I can't agree with all the Hobbs bashing.
