Because the competition prioritises head-to-head records over GD. So overall across the two games, they scored once and we just did not score.

(Now where have I heard that complaint before...!)

Umm what? I think you mean in the respective away games don't you? Away goals in the head to head was the tiebreaker.

We need to win not only because the most exciting period in the club's recent history deserves to be crowned with a trophy. This journey started with the JPT at Wembley, and now we have the opportunity to bookend our ascent from League 1 with the EFL Cup. But we also need to win because this is our only route back into Europe next season; and this club deserves to play in Europe.

Bookend suggests "end"..... this is just the continuation of the journey :)

But, yeah we gotta win it.

Just noticed... United are playing the return in France on Wednesday with a 17:00 ko <doh>

Anyone know why? Never noticed EL games on a Weds before... 3 next week and they're one, bloody typical that!!

Happens every year when EL reaches the knockout rounds. Because the CL schedule is staggered (only 2 matches per day, both airing at 19:45), they move some of the EL matches to an earlier kickoff on Wednesdays, with the CL matches airing in the evening.

Yeah but I thought they played all games on Thursdays, how long have they been playing on Wednesdays full stop?

Don't think there were any EL games yesterday for example.

Started last year as far as I'm aware. I remember being confused as all bejeezus that they had an EL match on a Tuesday, and they had another on the Wednesday of the second leg.

Ah I see. Don't remember that, though I probably didn't pay the EL much attention last season if I'm honest. But yeah I was very confused earlier to see they're playing Wednesday instead of Thursday.

We also need to win it to please all the fans who want Jose and Manure to realise that they are not Gods gift to football.
